348 oil filter

where is a good place to get 348 oil filters? what is brand/part #? are there any readily available ones that will work if the factory brand is crazy $?

I got Mine at Ricambi !! DAniel is the BEST.

 

There are no substitutes for the factory oem Purflux. As previously mentioned, Daniel is the man, and currently has them for $38 each. He also carries the copper crush washers and replacement drain plugs, if yours are stripped or buggered up.

It's a Purflux LS 925, made exclusively for Ferrari. I suppose we could take an old coffee can, stuff it with steel wool, and build a standpipe from PVC. For $8.50, we'd have a winner. [/sarcasm OFF]

At $38/ea (or heck, even $50/ea), it's pretty cheap considering it's a critical line of defense in your $20,000 engine.

You need the cross reference only if we come to a time when the part isn't being made any longer, which happens quite a bit for older Ferraris (348 A/C ecus, anyone?!).

In the case of the oil filter, we've got more time because it's the same filter for the 355 and 360 as on the 348.

 

Unfortunately, this is of no use, since there is no cross reference to the Purflux filter used.

 

Such a replacement isn't needed today. In the future, however, if 348 oil filters go the way of 348 A/C ecu's, then such a cross reference would be expected to pick up whatever 3rd party decided to eventually/finally make it.

I wouldn't know about an oil filter per se being discontinued, but other 348 parts have been...such as the 348's Air Conditioning ECU.

It would be GREAT if there was an alternative oil filter # out there for the 348.

Say... for those of us who drained our oil, put new oil in, took the old filter off... then realized we left the new Purflux in a different town & have no way to go fetch it. Would be so nice to go to Kragen right now & grab one off the shelf, then buy a Purflux from our advertisers later.

Before anyone panics about no or expensive oil filters you could buy a sandwich device that covers over the oem Filter base and run two oil lines to a single or dual remote filter(s). You can then buy cheap filters for less than 5 bucks that all the 350 chevy racers use and get 1-2 extra qts of oil in the case. Racers do this all the time to add in extra oil coolers or add more oil volume to increase easy cooling on stock systems etc... Oiling is pretty low tech. I bet you can pay for the new improved set-up for about 3 oil changes at oem Ferrari filter prices.

 

I have used System 1 brand reusable/cleanable screen type filter for years( first time on my 308)on my Fcars. Good way to watch what's going on in the engine the filter can be looked at anytime you want. The filter screens debris down to 10 microns. Regards, Vern

 

Hey! Anyone remember the aftermarket filters they sold back in the 50's? I hear toilet paper makes a great oil filter.

Just buy a new filter and keep it on the shelf. It's not like an oil change is a sudden unexpected event.
