The Irvine Co. seems rather short sighted here. It's largely due to the car show that has put that stink'n strip mall on the map. Now they want to pull the plug because it's just too much hassle for them. The people who work for the Irvine Co. have their noses in the air(I know I've met a few) and obviously are not willing to go to bat for us any longer because it's just too much trouble.

Remember your Irvine Co. friends the next time it comes to shop. No thanks!!

If Starbucks and Pacific Whey are open then I guess I'll stop in on Saturday mornings anyway to have coffee and breakfast with friends. If they are open then we must be welcome no matter what we drive. They can't make us go away and be open.

I can just see the newly posted signs:

No Ferraris, No Lamborghinis, No Porsches, No Corvettes, No Vipers, No old cars, No new cars, No for sale cars, No fast cars, No expensive cars, No exotic cars, No trucks with trailers, No Motorcycles, No skateboards, No rollerblades.

No loitering, No looking at cars, 15 minute parking only.

That is just lame, I say F them and keep going, so they take down the ropes and get rid of the rentacops and stop calling it a show, isnt that how it was suppose to be in the first place, they legally would have to either make it illegal for EVERYONE to not be able to enter the shopping center which would close the businesses, or one by one trespass every single person they dont want there, costing that neighborhood a lot of money to pull off. I say in protest that the next week its closed, everyone show up with your daily driver and crowd the place, they wont know what hit them since they wont see a single exotic, and start early and make your car as loud as possible....lol!

Andrew Theodorou of the Newport Dunes Resort might be interested in taking over the show - (949) 729-DUNE or visit www.newportdunes.com.

South Coast Plaza has plenty of parking and the stores don't open until 10 am - no residents nearby. I think the Segerstroms are community oriented -

I always kept thinking of the high school next to the 73 and Newport Coast. Big parking lot, no neighbors, easy access, and the school could raise money by selling coffee, pastries, etc.

just a question, why are you guys even trying to help them out by finding a new location? just keep using CC. as long as everyone that goes is buying a coffee and shopping there is nothing they can do. what are they gonna do, outlaw driving nice cars?

Maybe a compromise could be made - I think the amount of "commercializing" that has happened has made it worse. Every **** selling a car or promoting a buisiness, not in the spirit of the meet. That is probably the kicker, as it appears to be a more formal event, and liability meter rises. Reality is, we will probably have to rotate every few years as new spots get popular. I vote for Sunday meets.. or 10AM meets. Same Bat Place, different Bat Time.

so what makes this different then Donut Derilicks? That has been going on much longer, and no one has gotten pissed off and it hasnt become commercialized and it isnt gonna end anytime soon. Something is going wrong with CC and if someone can figure out what it is then perhaps it can be saved.

The difference there is there aren't residences nearby to complain. I used to work at Adams Avenue Donuts, about 10 years ago :D I dont know the degree that it happens there, but that show was HUGE, sometimes taking up parking across the street for show cars. Didnt see many vendors or dealerships there.

    Tshirt idea :

    Ferrari - $200,000
    15 Gal of premium gas - $60
    Frappuccino - $7
Enjoying the right to peacefully enjoy a public area - priceless

    OR..

"I came to crystal cove and all I got was this stupid arrest warrant"

yes but there is a surrounding community that the cars need to drive through to get there, the cars are often much louder than those that show up at CC, and they start much earlier and is still huge, and no one complains about being woken up at 5am on a Saturday by the roar of open pipes on several hotrods going down their streets.

and those ideas are great for the shirt.

What about the Irvine Spectrum at the 5 & 405 , is that a property of the Irvine Company as well? With the name Irvine attached to it it does not sound promising.

I think all 3, CC, Fashiob Island, and Spectrum are all owned by the Irvine Company

CC has deep pockets and they don't want to take a hit if some ambulance chasing attorney goes after them for someone who's been hurt or worse. Who knows maybe Irvine Co. has been advised by their attorney's to close it that way if anything were to happen they can say, "hey, don't look at us we told everyone that it's closed for a car show." I think that if you're there for a coffee there's not much they can do about that.

BTW, I'm not so sure how much the Pacific Whey guy was behind the show either. Yea, he reaped some good business out of it but he didn't sound too excited about the car show the couple of times I heard him talking. Keep that in mind when you spend your money there ;)

My hunch is that if people decide to show up anyway, the friendly NB police dept will be there in full force with sound meters & writing tickets for BS items like no front plates, tinted windows, modified engines, etc, etc. It will end up being costly to attend.

Dr. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, a Swiss Psychiatrist, explained we deal with trauma by working through five steps. Some get stuck in certain steps as evidenced on this thread:

    1. Denial: I’m not going to let this happen.
    2. Depression: Oh, no, not me.
    3. Anger: Why me?
    4. Bargaining: What if we made nice, no more SALE signs, etc.
    5. Acceptance: I don’t like it, but it is what it is.

Jeff’s T-shirt idea is a superb way to deal with leaving CC.

We need someone in the T-shirt business to crank out 600 or more T-shirts at cost.

We need six guys to step up and underwrite 100 shirts each, at $4-$5 each.

I will underwrite 100 shirts. Who else will step up??

We “distribute” the shirts over the next two weekends at our cost of $4-$5. Absolutely no profit motive. Make it a bargin and enticing for everyone

Stay with me, here: the shirt needs to be in relation to “Last Rites” or a Funeral ceremony.

Example: Front side of BLACK T-Shirt (with priest logo shown below)
    Crystal Cove
    Last Rites
    10-14-06

    Back Side of BLACK T-shirt
    Boycott
    Irvine Company
    “Murdered A Great
    Car Show”

Someone will improve on that, but you get the idea.

    NOW: COMES THE FINALE
WE STAGE AN ACTUAL BURIAL CEREMONY AT CC ON OCTOBER 14
A HEARSE OR OTHER VEHICLE ARRIVES WITH A CASKET (draped with Ferrari flag)
A HOLY PERSON IN ROBES READS LAST RIGHTS (which will knock the Irvine Co.)

The whole thing is to create a photo op, which will appear, perhaps nationally.

Key ingredients for the photo op:

    1. Holy Man in Robe with some acting experience, or maybe a real priest
    2. Casket draped with Ferrari flag
    3. A sea of “mourners” in black T-shirts
    4. A quality boom box with appropriate music, I’ve got a Georgian Chant CD, which would work
    5. 6-8 pall bearers with RED FERRAR shirts (could be any car shirt but red shirts will enhance photo)

Let’s say goodbye to the Irvine Company with class.

After the "ceremony", a slow funeral drive of a 100 + sports cars through CDM enroute to Fashion Island.

At FI all 600 plus T-shirt should go to a predestinated spot at Fashion Island to march together or walk around showing off our lovely shirts. Probably get arrested, but might try to march through FI with the casket.

Our great photographers, Jay, Frank and Drew will capture the event for posterity and maybe even sell to national press. A friend is a Getty VP and this is what they do.
