(L)E-gear to (F)F1 shifting

What is the difference in the feel of the shifting/take off between these two transmissions. Lambo Gallardo or Murcie and Ferrari 360? Are the different animals (literraly) or similar? Shif times in ms, etc... thanks!

 

I can only comment on the Gallardo compared to the F430. The Ferrari F1 is far superior to the e-gear - way smoother and better at low speed. The Gallardo has a better sound on downshifts, but that's about it. Mind you, driving an e-gear still beats the heavy shift of the manual G, IMO.

What I would say is that the Ferrari is much easier to drive in slow moving traffic. The reason for this is that as soon as you select 1st the Lambo is trying to accelerate the car. So you always feel like you are fighting to slow the car down. The ferrari is the opposite of this.

Outside of this situation I actually prefer the e-gear

 

I just sold my 360 F1 and currently own an E-Gear Gallardo and F430 F1. The 360 and F430 F1's are much better than the Gallardo E-Gear. The Ferrari's shift smoother! I hate when the G downshifts, it pushes the car forward in a lunging affect. I could go on my for quite some time dishing on the E-Gear, but I don't have the time.

Over all, the Ferrari and Lamborghini's are great cars with great and good trannies. I complain about the E-Gear, but would purchase it again.

Purchase the car that effects you the most. It's hard beat the price on a used G.

 

I have a 00 360 and 05 gallardo. Even with the old F1 ECU, the F car shifted better in every way.

i can only really comment on 'hard paxing' (<300km driving an e-gear) but yeah been in variants of both cars in taxing driving conditions (hard twisties, >250kph, etc).

the thing i feel from the pax seat is that the G has more 'lurch' but much greater torque, whereas the F430 relies on precision handling and power delivery... compare a sword to a baseball bat if you will.

each change up of the Lamborghini, it seems to take an age despite its ~1/4 second latency, but each gear change is a monstrous event with a whole new tsunami of torque pushing you forward once again. put it this way, it's well worth the wait!

in the Ferrari, the changes are very precise, speedy, and clinical, allowing the driver to operate the curves like a surgeon. despite the fact the Lamborghini *feels* more planted in long high-speed curves - like it's sucking up the tarmac as it goes -, the Ferrari outshines it for pure roadholding and confidence.

i've also been in the manual versions of both of these cars. they are so close in performance (i have a great video i can't show you ) that it's not worth worrying about, pick the car that moves you the most, and the transmission option that suits your style. that's all it comes down to nowadays.

for me on a modern car like this, if Ferrari would bring out an F430 CS then i'd possibly go for that, until then my vote remains for the Gallardo SE E-Gear.

 

I think a prolonged use of the E-gear in Sport mode with agreesive driving is bound to take its toll on the drivetrain. Shifting is way too violent under acceleration.

 

There is a big difference between the 360 and the 430 F 1 transmissions and shifting. Likewise there is a huge difference between the current E-gear Gallardo transmission and shifting and older versions. The gear ratios are different and the electronics are vastly improved.

I drove both the current Gallardo spider and the 430 coupe side by side. They are very similar in performance. The differences are that the Lamborghini has more low end torque and has a heavier feel. The 430 seems lighter and has more high RPM BHP. Both are great cars.

I had an 04 e-gear and now have an 06 e-gear. I'm struggling to find any improvement in the way the gearbox operates - if anything the 04 had a smoother shift. The rest of the car is much better though...

When exactly, was your '06 brought in and is it a coupe or convertible?

I had an 04 6sp because I did not like the Egear then. I now have an 06 Egear and the shifting may be as abrupt as ever but the clutch takeoff after the shift is way smoother and there is no jerking any more even compared to my old 360F1, this thing is smoother once the gear is selected. aehass has a point, my 06 was manufactured in May 06 and felt smoother than an 06 SE manufactured in May 05.

 

SE coupe delivered January 06 - I'm pestering the dealer for any upgrades going.

 

if i remember correct, the SE has a shorter ratio and the E gear is built to suit "heaving driving", so the standard would be smoother, proboblly the roadster would have the smoothest e gear.

LP640 appearntly has 2 first gears, one for slowly going along, the other for belting. may be that's the thing they use to trying to refine the E gear experience.

 

Factory rep confirmed all 06 G's have the same ratios as the SE"s. Almost all the SE's were manufactured before the 06 cars that came to the US.

 

I haven't driven a Gallardo, but what XSSSIVE said, is the biggest complaint I have heard about the E-gear. ie. almost trying to accelerate when braking/shifting down to a curve.

 

I would bet money you have the original transmission. Drive the convertible, then give us another insight.

Well now I am totally confused. Yesterday in fact I called and changed my ticket to go E-gear on my LP 640 instead of stick shift as originally spec'd- (my build has been ? pushed back...or should I say factory legitimized to late dec/early jan).

I find the 360 F1 (May 04 build spider) to have dual personalities. At low speeds/low acceleration the shifts are "soft" and slow, with the rpms going initially below the "baseline" of the selected gear, then the throttle blips as the gear is engaged. Under heavy accleration and in sport mode the shifts are "too abrupt" and have the feeling of being shoved in gear (as in power shifting a stick w/out the use of a clutch). Frankly, it makes me whince and pucker.

My Vanq does not go "below the baseline" and throttle revs match the selected gear exactly. It is much faster than the 360's esp in sport.

One of the reasons I decided to go E-gear is that when I asked the Aston service guy about clutch wear, he told me if properly used the clutch wear should be the same between a paddle shift and a stick. It is abuse or should I say inappropriate/overuse of the clutch in a pddleshift (driving it like an automatic) that causes early clutch replacements i.e. neutral drops at lights, neutral drops in traffic etc, treating the paddles as if you were using your left leg instead of keeping it in gear at lights and in stop/go traffic. The main advantage is the throttle blips to match revs has a positive effect on the drivetrain.

The other reasons are because I'm fat and lazy, I like paddles, and my wife and kids can drive it.

 

12year old thread I know but just wondering if any of you have a violent jerking problem in 1st gear let’s say light turns green u accelerate normally and car in front slows down you let off throttle and foot down again...my car will just jerk unless you go in 2nd or neutral.
