I think the greatest problem in this whole equation is that we can no longer refer to the gathering as "Crystal Cove". Venues without names don't last long.

Can you disclose the NB location? One spot is optimal but the rotating thing sounds like the next best alternative. Thanks for spearheading this.

Easy, cowboy.. while some of what you say is PARTLY true, its also PARTY ture for most other OC beach cities. Most people that are annoying are the ones that come from OUT OF TOWN to visit HB. Not the onces that actually live there. What you describe is more like Corona.

I see, maybe we should convince the city of Newport Beach to built a 30ft tall wall at its north border so these darn HB people won't get anywhere near the jewel of SoCal that is Newport Coast and Laguna. :D

It's really a shame to not have a reason to go to bed early on Friday nights in anticipation of the gathering on Saturday morning. Whatever happens relocation is still much better than termination.

Another option: Everyone donates 100k and we buy CC from The Irvine Co.

i think that a rotating meet will confuse a lot of people, bec not evryone willknow were the meet will be.. some of the other enthusiast do not frequent forums like fchat etc.. to know where the next meet will be. pickingone location would be best...

Hello everyone! My name is Richard and I just registered. I am an avid ferrari enthusiast and hope to own one someday. I have been attending Crystal Cove quite regularly for over a year now. I drive and show the blacked out 2005 Mustang GT and come with my other friend Richard (Rrobello) who posts pictures of each show here. (albums can be found at htp://www.SurfnSoCal.com )

I was quite sad to hear of the end of Crystal Cove...especially with the wonderful story of it's beginings.

My first suggestion is to take a step back and look at the situation. You have the car enthusiasts, ricer punks/troublemakers (I include businesses, people selling things/cars, etc in this group) , spectators, and the normal shoppers showing up. With them passing out flyers at the next two shows along with media coverage of the closing, wouldn't you think the two groups that would dramatically be detered/cut down would be the spectators (why would you show up if there aren't any cars there?) and the troublemakers (already breaking rules...why push it by showing up to future unauthorized shows?).

Skip the 21st and try and get a group of real car enthusiasts on here to go the 28th at 9:30am after the shopping center has opened. Evenutally, word of mouth will spread in subsequent weeks...BUT....it will be done in a gradual fashion. I'd say by the end of November, crystal cove would be just as big again but legally no one could do anything.

Now, I'd make sure your spending money at one of the shops so you aren't loitering. And, I would make sure your car is street legal (unless you could care less to receive a fix it ticket for a front plate).

But in reality....what can the police or owners of the property LEGALLY do to prevent someone driving a nice car from parking, buying coffee, and admiring someone elses nice car? Especially if it goes from being a huge gathering to nothing....and then in 2 weeks starting over from a small group and growing slowly.

sorry for such a LONG first post, but I'd hate to see you all give up when Crystal Cove is such a killer spot.

Just a couple of things to consider about using HB parking area as a new location. Is it too close to the sand?
It's a great place until the wind kicks up the sand from the beach, then it's not a good place to have your Rossa Corsa paint around. Another thing is the airborne film that attaches to your car from being in such proximity to the ocean. It's a sticky mess especially when combined with the smoke from the campers fires that are allowed in the fire-pits (even early in the a.m.) on many HB beaches.
Many times I have taken PCH to and from CC just to get home and have to completely clean the car.....it all starts to happen from Brookhurst past HB.........you can see and smell it in the air. Hey, nothing against HB, I grew up surfing and playing there, it's a great place to go, but just not maybe the place for your car to hang out. IMHO.
On the other hand Barry would like it, "Meguire's Quick Detailer" works wonders on the muck.
Just a suggestion, what about the El Toro facility, I think that AMCI has an interest there since it is now privately held. Plenty of room...heck, they could even charge select automotive vendors for space there and make a few bucks to make it worth their while? You could even stage events and demonstrations there(that's what they use it for now......ride n' drives, etc.) It's not as classy as the CC location but it's proximity to the freeways and the space available make it an intriguing location.O.K you automotive entrepreneurs out there , who's going to step up and for sponsorship and make something happen?

it looks as though we have two trains of thought,
    1. weekly event, mini type car show.
    2. weekly hangout, chat, drink, nice view and no commercialism

i vote for the simple show up and chat with no vendors, sponsership or anything that resembles a car show scaled down. it ends up getting to big and out of control like the problem we now have. NB has great beaches and views and add the small group of car guys getting together for breakfast is nice.

i trade time between socal and norcal, the norcal (sacramento) guys get together once in awhile and it's small and quaint like CC started out. i'll even pop over to the snakes gathering once in awhile, same deal. granted there is no ocean view but the feel of the 'event' if you'd call it that is simply to get together for a short time then go for impromptu drives in the hills.

He's pretty dead on, but there are trade offs, you get that crowd from HB, or deal w/ the money factor crowd down south that thinks they are better then every one else. I'd much rather have beer cans on my balcony then a bottle of boone's or some wine coolers ;). I'll take a volcom shirt over a popped up color anyday as well. And tatoos sure are a better then a sweat band around your wrist ;)

BTW, the crowd from Corona are the ones out in the ocean swimming in their jean shorts and wife beaters.

I think if it's in HB, you might as well just join the Donut Derelicts meet, and park across the street. IMO better to keep it down south.

There is a large privately owned, car oriented parking lot very close to the Irvine Spectrum being considered. Details to follow. It could be really good. Stand by for details. Awaiting approvals.

I'm gonna burn my 6,700th post on FChat on -- Crystal Cove.

(As an aside, I am very embarrassed to have made 6,700 posts on a freakin Internet site. If you break this down, at three minutes a post, this means that I have spent 335 hours posting on FChat. At an hourly billing rate of 400 smackers per hour, this means that I have burned $134,000 trying my best to communicate with you morons. Oh, wait a minute, I guess that makes me the moron. Oh well.)

I'd just like to say that I love Crystal Cove. The morning fog. The ocean in the background. The number and variety of really cool cars. Knowing that lots, just the freakin lots, in Crystal Cove are going for $3 million cool ones.

But most of all, the people. The totally insane, the totally wacked out, just car guys who really don't give a rat's behind what you think. However, if you show a little interest, they will talk your ear off. Damn, there have been so many. The guy with the Peugeot who raced at the salt flats of Bonneville. The retired aerospace engineer who jammed a V8 into a 914 and totally redid the suspension system. The guy with the original Meyer Manx dune buggy. And on and on and on.

Listen folks, I can't make it two weeks from now. So I'm counting on you guys to do it with class. The idea of staging a funeral is great. Everybody and their granny should fire up what ever they have and just jam the place. Come on, give em sumthang to talk about. Do it up SoCal style. Make some news. Shake some bones.

But whatever you do, do it with class.

Dale, out of 169 posts, the funeral idea and t-shirt idea haven't' seem to gain any traction. I haven't pursued the idea, maybe others have.

The main points of interest I take from this tread are: (1) how to stay at CC or (2) where the new venue could be.

You're in large and in charge buddy. I can't do anything to help you from the third coast. If I could, I surely would.

But this can't go out with a whimper. Crystral Cove has been one of those uniquely SoCal things. So you're just gonna have to go out SoCal style. Does anyone have contacts with Leno? (I talked to him at Pebble Beach, but I don't think that this means that he'll take my phone calls.)

If nothing else, get over 1,000 cars to show. Shut down PCH. Shut down CC. Get the "Live At 5" choppers to take pictures. Hell, get 10,000 cars to show up.

You guys just can't let this go without doing it up right.

Rock N' Roll will never die.

Part of the fun of CC is the spontaneity of it all. Every week it just happened and took on a life of its own. Consequently a coordinated effort of something in the last couple of shows would be a little out of character and that's probably why nothing has really formulated. One thing is for sure that you're going to have a lot of people there that really love that show and all that it represents, that are going to hate like hell to see it go. :(

PS - anyone have a megaphone I can borrow? ;)
