In simple terms, Manufactures need to keep the prices down, one way is to decontent the standard equipment and make them optional.

A perfect example, GM lowered about 13 models in 2003 by $600.00.....by making ABS optional

I would rather have the freedom to pick and choose.

I don't really want some product planner deciding for me what combination of equipment I want.

That is exactly what drives me nuts about buying an American car.

Some things I don't understand with US brands... After 20 years of ABS it's still an option in many brands in US market - esspecialy the cheaper models. In Europe all models come with ABS, 2-airbags and many more. I can't help thinking that in US manufactures will rather drop on safety features then electric windows or huge engines.

i say bring even MORE options. with more options we can get cars that are more 'individualized' in contrast to cars like like mb with outrageously overpriced packages with crap we do not want in them. i would rather a car company have a list of all individual options and pay seperate than order in packages.

i do not want to pay $1200 for a cold weather pack (with the intention of only wanting heated seats) when i could just spend $500 for the damn heated seats. i dont need the stupid ski sack!
