Who really believes that their motor will blow up 1rpm past the red line?
Who really believes hitting the red line for an instant hurts the motor?
Who really believes a 10-year old car with 2000 miles is a better car than one with 20,000 miles?
Who that bought a used Ferrari really believes their car has never been driven hard and put away wet?
Who really believes they have enjoyed the potential of the car if they have never broken traction?
Who really believes that a car with a production run of 10,000+ is a "collector car" or "investment"?
Who believes it's better to drive it slow?
Who thinks tracking a Ferrari is abuse?
Who thinks that protecting the value of the car is more important than running the risk of a rock chip?
Who believes standing in the parking lot is more fun than driving it?
Who believes their car is "fragile"?

Sorry for the ranting-guess I've spent too much time listening to the parking lot guys make excuses as to why they're not going on the run. If anybody's got more, or answers to these, I'd love to hear them. And no, my "only 1500mi, never driven hard, only driven on Sundays, always garaged, never over 5000rpm garage queen celebrity-owned collector investment all original factory serviced oem parts" Fcar isn't for sale. :)

Why don't you just treat your car the way you want to, and let the rest of us do the same. No reason for ranting.

This is a forum. This is precisely where you rant. It does no harm to anyone unless in your ranting you make specific slanderous and libelous statements.
More power to the ranters. They very often say what a lot of people think, but are too polite to say. It also makes a for a good thread. In a Rodney King "can't we all just get along" vanilla flavor world, you would be bored to death.

You may be right, but personally I get very tired of the old "right and wrong" way to own a car threads. I know I could just ignore them, but then I wouldn't have anything to "rant" about.

That's got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I guess to me it wouldn't make sense if someone bought a Ferrari, especially a newer one, and just "drove" it. Anyone in their right mind with a 10,000 rpm tach on a car with the most ungodly sound connected to the throttle pedal would have to run the car through it's paces, at least once.

So, I meet some Ferrari guys locally a few odd years back, and I get invited for a tour, five red Ferrari's go wheeling through the twisties. Three 308's, one 328, and a TR. Everywhere we go, MR TR is lagging behind. The owner was maybe 60, his first Ferrari if I recall. We drive 10 miles, we stop, we all hang out several long minutes for our TR guy to arrive, then move on. Man that guy was pokey.

I got a ride in the TR. He eased out the clutch, idled her up to 2K, shift. 2K, shift, onward up to 5th. He might have hit almost 2500 SCREAMING rpm once or twice. By the time we drove a mile I was in pain. What could I say or do? I mean, some guy gives you a ride in his car you cant really tell him hes a FREAKING RETARD! But if you bought his car from him you could be pretty sure it never hit any real high speed. Unless 45 or 50 MPH is to fast for you.

Yeah, now that you mention it I guess that was a dumb thing to add. The FAA has just said they will reconsider allowing pilots to fly commercial aircraft past 60 years of age. Something I always thought was stupid anyway. Take the guys with the greatest experience out of the seat simply because they had a birthday?

Could it have been a case of "buying more of a car than he could financially maintain?" I find that enters the equation more often than not........

I dunno. He brought the car out 40 odd miles to meet a group of others with Ferrari's, and from there we drove over 250 miles or more before returning to our starting point. I would think if someone were so financially overburdened with a car like that they would just lock it away in thier garage.

Sometimes I think we all fall into thinking these cars are fragile from time to time, or in particular areas. I guess I can gripe about a slow ride in a TR, but it was still a TR and it was still a ride. I really dont think trippling the engine speed would have hurt anything, but, oh well. But I could forsee a day, when the values of these cars get so high, when parts become unobtainable, that they will languish away collecting dust somewhere. I would hope that in the future, long after I am gone, someone will have the courage to take them out from time to time. Even babied around is better than rotting away.

When I was younger all the pioneer or antique cars were stored away in museums, never ran, and everyone had concluded they were very fragile and there were no parts to fix them, what if something happened? But the last 15 years or so has seen more and more of them being brought out and driven. We have a New London to New Brighton run here each year, and it doubled in entrants this year over last. Seeing 100+ year old cars going on a 100 mile run is just really something to see. Seeing guys almost 100 years old out looking at them was equally cool. Maybe some of us will be around when a Ferrari hits 100 years old.

Another "peeve" of mine. Not all Ferrari owners are wealthy. Some of us are die hard enthusiasts on a limited Ferrari budjet. I don't think that should limit ownership. I probably should only own one F-car financially, but my wife has approved number three so what the hell. I still don't drive any of them or the Jaguar very often. I guess that's the owners choice.

Becareful posting words like that Paul. Some people get very offended easily. Especially if they have family or friends that are retarded.....I know you didnt mean it like the way you posted it, but you could have worded that a little better man.

You are correct. I humbly appologise. I worked with a really nice guy for a while, we just hit it off so well. And as such, we kidded a lot, and as we all know, sometimes the kidding rises ever higher. Anyway, we were joking around one night ribbing each other, and I mistakenly said, "you have any kids that lived?" Suddenly this giant of a man was in tears, as he had lost a young daughter some years before. We must always guard our tounge, and I am sorry if anything I said offended anyone.
