How will it look in the end? Won a championship in an off year (ferrari sucked-no competition). Lost to Micheal when he had a good car(2006). Goes to mclarin which has dnf'd 6 times this year and hasn't won a race(2007). all down hill from there....

If you could actually spell his name I think more people would take this thread seriously. And does anyone think that any championship in the next 3 years (07-09) will not be won be either Alonso or Kimi?

Between McLaren's reliability issues and Ferrari losing key staff, Fisi might have a shot in '07.

And if Kimi's reliabilty issues aren't just the car, Massa may be well up in the points.

(Let's hear it for the former Sauber drivers! ;))

I think Alonso will win at least 2 more world driving championships. Last year was no fluke because he had to fight it out with Kimi, and McLaren will find their way again; also I fear that there will be a major decline in Ferrari's future once Brawn & Co. depart from the team en toto.

Alonso and Kimi look to dominate the next couple years for sure. Maybe Kubica and Massa might join the party sooner than later.

Yes... Ferrari are just going to roll over and hire ice cream van drivers to do Brawn's job. The whole world is completely incompitent and there is no one else who can replace the current staff who will leave Ferrari! Jean Todt is going to wake p one day and fire the whole F1 team. They will all be replaced over night! On exactly April 1st 2007 the whole team will just wake up and stop working. On April 2nd 2007 there will be a new person at every single job at Ferrari!

There is something called continuity. Ferrari is the only team to have been in F1 since the start! They know a thing or two about continuity!

Alonso still has a chance at winning the title this year, albeit a rather small one. But weirder stuff has happened.

The next couple of years will be tough for him. I don't see McLaren bouncing back anytime soon. Ferrari has the best car right now and that momentum will carry on for at least next year securing Kimi the title. Even when the team will change Ferrari still has the advantage of having worked with Bridgestone over all these years.

But eventually Alonso will have made his $$$ at McLaren and will be hungry for titles again. That's when he'll join the best team (which by then might be McLaren again) and get a couple more titles.

No driver will ever eclipse the 7 (or 8) of MS. So Alonso won't touch that record, but I'm sure he'll get a 2nd or third. The problem is, that right now a bunch of super talented young stars are entering F1: Kubica, Rosber, Vittel, Piquet, Kovalainen. I think competition will be incredibly tough in the coming years.

Good point. Sauber fans were sceptical once BMW took over, but look at the team now! They have come 180 degrees. And the windtunnel is finally used in two shifts, next year in 3 shifts. Very different from the Sauber approach of building a car and not really improving it, which is why they kept going backwards as the season progressed. With JV gone and Kubica in the cockpit driverwise they're getting better as well. Wasn't obvious from the start and a bit of a gamble, but it looks like Sauber found another jewel in Kubica.

Current edition of RACER has a nice article about BMW Sauber.

I think that sadly Ferrari will start well but fall off as Kimi is not the guy to bring the team on that is clear from Mclaren, he also is not a reliable finisher, so they will fall off into the upper middle teams.
Massa may even show Kimi the way next year as he can finish something, Kimi is not consistent with.

    Renault

Fisi is neither a world champ nor a developer of cars. They will be competitive but not consistent. They will fall back.

    Mclaren

Alonso will bring the car on but not quick enough
De La Rosa well he is good but not good enough

    Honda

Well here may be the team to watch as they have a consistent development program with two top drivers and money.
Button has the team built around him so he could be the one to watch next year. He developed the car not Burino so I think he will continue to show the way forward there.

    Toyota

Well they have the money and two drivers but are not developing the car quick enough so they will only be hot on a few occasions.

Of course everyone is on Bridgestone’s next year so the tyre issue should be negated.

So I think we will see a big turn around next year with a few teams possibly in Championship form. Honda to watch for it’s their turn.

Michael Collins (what a great name!), I couldn't disagree more with you:

    - Ferrari will win the title. Kimi rocks!

    - Renault will do just fine, because they will have Kovalainen who will podium if not outright win.

    - McLaren, Honda, Toyota - forget them

    - BMW will podium/win with Kubica

    - Red Bull-Renault will podium with the new Newey car, question mark are the drivers

    Me.

People forget very quickly what the past was like. It was not so long ago that McLaren was a dominant force in F1. Not much longer before that Williams was it. Only a few scant years back, Montoya and Ralf were looking set to give Ferrari a run for the title in their Williams. Not too long ago Renault was about as good as BMW/Sauber is now.

Fortunes in Formula1 change quickly. There is no guarantee that McLaren will be on their game next year. They certainly weren't this year and last year they lagged too. Ferrari was dominant for years and last year they were middle-lower of the pack. I think Kimi will do well at Ferrari, but Williams, BMW, Toyota, Honda and Red Bull are potential strong contenders next year. They are all very much interested in winning and have the ability and commitment to spend the $$ necessary. Also do not count out Renault. Heiki could be very good. I think if Nico, Kubica, Button or some others were in a very fast car they would be in the running for the title.

I don't think the relative performance of the cars today gives enough data to predict where anyone will be in 3 years. Williams fell very far. Ferrari rose tremendously after having fallen so far last year. All it takes is for someone else to come into their own - Toyota, BMW, Honda - and Kimi and Ferdi are gonna have a tough time winning WDC's.

Finally, the new rules may very well shuffle things up a LOT in the coming years. There is no way to say Kimi and Ferdi are the WDC's for the next 3 - I'd bet a sum against that for sure!

But you could also attribute the same to MS:
'Won the championship X times when all the competition really sucked'.

Neither MS nor FA suck, or they would not win, let alone put themselves in a position to get a win....
Ferrari sukced, MS got there, it turned around.
JV won a WDC, moved the other way, and sucked from there on out.

I'm guessing you think FA will go the same way as JV did ?

SRT Mike: I have said the same thing for the last 6 months: how fortunes change, I cited how Brabham-BMW was the best, then McLaren-TAG was, then Lotus-Renault, McLaren-Honda, Williams-Renault then Williams Honda, I stopped keeping track after 1994, but you are very correct - times change for everyone.

I agree to an extent. I just simply think that Alonso and Kimi are that much better than the rest of the field. The fact they are are on different teams just increases the chance that one of them will be good for that year.

I think Alonso will have a good career but not an outstanding one and I am sure he will struggle at McLaren ad butt heads many times with old Ron and in my opinion the environment at McLaren wont suit him at all. Add to this his character floor of assuming conspiracies and blaming everyone but himself when things go wrong.
