It's pretty easy to add 12 to my time based on a 12 hour clock (just change AM to PM or PM to AM). We've discussed this before, lol. ;)

a few from the Q&A session - all responses are that of a true winner . . .

What exactly happened on the 37th lap?

MS: There was no engine any more and everything went up in smoke.

    Q. Were there any signs beforehand that there was a problem?

    MS: No.

    Q. What went through your mind when it happened?

MS: You know it is a retirement, you know you lose 10 points and you know the consequences. And you also know in the first moments that the championship was decided like this.

    Q. What did you say to the mechanics?

MS: I was just thanking them. I really believe the championship is over, so I wanted to thank them all personally. We know Fernando only needs one point and we know what a good driver he is so it should not be a problem for him. We will go to Brazil giving the best we can but that will be more for the constructors' championship.

    Q. What was the race like until that moment?

MS: It went very much according to plan. We were quick at those moments that we wanted to be quick and the result looking like it was going to go well.

    Q. How long do you think it will take you to get over the disappointment?

MS: Not too long. As I have said, I can live very well with this. I tried everything I could this year, and we all together tried everything we could. But in the end it didn't work out. That is it.

    Carol

Sad race, I am usually very supersticious about wearing anything with Ferrari on it and watching a race and yesterday I was invited to get up early and go watch the race with the local Ferrari club provided I wore something Ferrari....so I did and look what happened! Added to this was the very rare site of seeing 2 Ferraris standing outside the restuarant in the rain!(the rest of the guys brought either Bentleys or Maseratis)

10 out of 10 for the way MS behaved though, true class if that was FA the steerign wheel would have been thorwn meters, he would have stormed off in the huff.

    Wow.

Here is pure class in defeat:

    Michael Schumacher, Ferrari (DNF):
“We are a great team. Our guys are the best and I have a great affection for everyone at Ferrari and am always more than satisfied in the way we work. Incidents like today’s can happen and they are part of racing. You win together but you also lose together. Today we did our best, I was leading the race and then my engine broke. That’s the simplest way to sum it up. That is Formula One. We can be proud of what we have achieved since Canada: we were twenty five points behind and no one could have thought we would be back in the fight for the championship, but we did it. Now we are nine points behind in the Constructors’ classification and we will do all we can to win this title in Brazil. As for the Drivers,’ it is lost. I don’t want to head off for a race, hoping that my rival has to retire. That is not the way in which I want to win the title.”

FA is a great driver but everyone knows that his WC last year was in great part due to McLaren's failure; will his DC this year be viewed likewise???

And now Alonso's championship seems so much less a championship - this year will not be remembered primaily for FA, but rather the way MS carried off his last year with class. FA is just a footnote.

I agree. And I am sure that all the Schumacher haters on this forum have had a great day. Personally I would have prefered a contest til the last, but it looks like those who wanted FA to wipe the floor with MS are happy.

The only question is, who are they all going to spit the venom at next year?

I'm as disappointed (angry?) as everyone else, but I just knew that the mistakes by Michael at Monaco (qualifying incident) and Hungary would come back to haunt him.

Even if he started 2nd or 3rd at Monaco, considering how Alonso went in the race, this was an MS win (+6 pts for MS, -2 for Alonso). At Hungary, if the team had told him to settle for P3, that's another +5 pts.

So without any unrealiatic what-ifs and buts, and including engine and wheel nut failures, bad tire choices (Oz) all around, we'd be looking at Michael going to Brazil with a lead of 3 pts and the possibility of finishing second to Alonso and still gaining his recoed 8th championship.

I was absolutely gutted when Schumi's engine let go, and the championship along with it. But how mature and gracious were his comments that he did not want to win the WDC in Brazil by Alonso retiring. He is a true champion and I will miss him next year and for years after that. I have a feeling that Alonso may not have been as gracious if the tables were turned..

I have my tickets booked for Brazil so I can cheer him on to the constructors win in person. And I am glad I am going, even though the WDC may be over I am proud to be going, to thank him for all the happiness his career at Ferrari has brought me the last 11 years.

And well done to FA on two in a row, pity it didn't make it to the Sao Paulo showdown we were all hoping for.

    Dave

I have many of the same thoughts. I don't think he would of made these errors in years past. I do think Ferrari and MS made his last season exciting coming back when everyone counted them out. It was going to be a story book ending but now just a nitemare. I really enjoyed the season and Alonso did what it took to win.

I just went over to the F1 site and found out that Massa pitted early due to a slow leak in his rear tire the first time in giving Alonso an easy pass. He was lucky it didn't blow.
