Tubi Headache!

Hi having just bought a 360 spider 2001, with tubi, i am faced with a dilema.
The exhaust looks fantastic, so do the tips, and the sound when opened up is great, BUT, in stop/start traffic which is 70% of driving time the low rev bass resonance is killing my ears, after 1/2 an hour driving i just want to get out. My gf also finds it intolerable and she is a total petrolhead, there must be a solution to this other than replacing the system which i don't really want to do. Any idea's other than ear plugs!!

p.s. not sure if the by-pass valves were removed for this system haven't investigated yet.

I had similar issue with the CS tubi system I fitted to my spider.

If you want to keep the noise but not the idle bass have a look at some sports cats. I used larini ones and they did the job just fine.

 

This is a common thing with the Tubi, hence why a lot of guys are now going different routes. Some don't mind living with the interior resonation for the satisfaction of the WOT sounds, but if you can't take it, unfortunately you will need to buy a new exhaust such as a Capristo, Kreis Seig, X-Ost, Quicksilver, GLH Motorsports (they claim to have a patent on the non resonance muffler, I'm going to call myself tommorow to find out more, if you want PM me, and I will let you know what I find out)

 

I spend great deal of time looking for the aftermarket exhaust without the problems that you are describing. Found it !!! Novitec Supersport that I bought from Kevin @ MVP Eurosports. Could not be any happier with this system.

That's one thing Tubi exhausts are notorious for. On the F355 we've heard our manifolds have gotten rid of the sound, you can get Harmony manifolds for the 360, this may or may not solve the problem but at that price you can just get a new exhaust system.

 

Tubi is really too loud for a spider, maybe the Kreisseig? is the way to go?

One thing I will say; if you are looking for something without a resonance/drone stay away from Capristo. Might wanna look at X-0st, price & sound is nice....

Don't have much to add either, but just wanted to share I think I have narrowed down the exhaust choice on my new 360 Spider. Either Novitech (valveless and civil until pushed) or the Kreissieg (F'in expensive but because of remote control, can be all things to everyone). I don't think I have seen a video of the X-Ost WOT and under load. Would be interested in a comparison with the Novitech. The Novitech comes with the beautiful rear grill inserts, while the X-Ost has those beautiful F430-style tips.

I had Capristo Level 3 on my 360 coupe. It's probably different on the spider, but I had absolutely no cabin resonance with my setup. Loved it.

 

Ditto ... plus, the Capristo looks so good through the Challenge grill

My car has a Tubi but it has the stock tips, including the valves. The valves keep the noise down when you aren't on it but you still get the sound when you jump on the gas.

OK, the Tubi tips look better but this setup is pretty good on a spider.

 

Why not swap it back to stock and get some money back? You should get at least 1k easy for the swap.

If I recall correctly, the 360 Tubi tips do not use a valve to close the outer tips. So all four tips are always in use. If you can get a hold of stock tips then you can use the valves and maybe remove the Tubi drone. You can also have nice shine tips welded on if the look of stock tips is a problem for you.

 

I too had this exact same problem as most people know. I sold the Tubi and purchased a Novitec Supersport. Have now covered over 2000 miles and I love it. You get no low rpm drone and it sounds fantastic up the rev range. You need to bin the Tubi.

 

I have said before that Tubi is not a well-designed product, and it is grossly overpriced.

When an exhaust manufacturer does not show a cutaway of the internals nor posts credible performance gains from a known standard, something is not right.

The low level resonance is terrible and quite disturbing.

I would like to hear the Novitech.

The exhausts from Tubi are less money than some, more than others.. basically they are in the same ball park as all the other Ferrari exhausts on the market.

As far as being "not a well-designed product", I think you are off base. I had a tubi on my 355 and loved it. On the 360, it's great. I run it with the hyper flow cats and it's a touch loud, but I can't imagine it being too much with stock cats. Even with the hyper flow cats, it's absolutely no problem to drive on long trips. The sound is great. There is a little resonance around 3000 RPM's once in a while, but it's easy to drive at 3100 RPM's to silence it.

I've heard you bashing Tubi very hard lately, both on here and in person, yet I don't know what you are basing any of your information on. Did you cut one apart or something? You say tubi doesn't show a cutaway of their exhaust, but so what.. why should they? I haven't seen cutaways of any other exhausts out there either.

I've called and spoken directly with Lou at Tubi and he answered all my questions regarding performance gains, etc, etc. Perhaps you should contact them directly and resolve your issues - whatever they are - once and for all. Very few makers of exhausts post dyno sheets, so I think it's unfair to single out one manufacturer for not doing it - when frankly, none of them do it.

If you have some supporting evidence as to what specifically makes Tubi such a horrible product, then post it here. Otherwise, there is really no difference between you having one view without a dyno sheet to back you up, vs. Tubi having another view without one either.

You single out Tubi all the time. It's sounding more and more like sour grapes if you ask me. If there are some specifics or technical information that you can post to back up your views, then great; I'm sure everyone would be interested in seeing them. I know I would.

As far as I can see, Tubi stacks up as well as any other exhaust, if not better.

Ray, the Tubi & Hyperflow cats probably works on a coupe. A spider is a different matter. The volume is MUCH louder for any given configuration.

Don't get me wrong, I am thinking about hyperflow cats but I haven't taken the plunge. I am also thinking about putting my Tubi tips back on but haven't done that either. Maybe I will work out how to get the valves with my Tubi tips.

Oh well, not top priority for me right now.

 

I've heard owners of stage-2's say the drone is much less....but I've also heard some of them say it's horribly as bad. I think it gets worse as the internal baffling wears-down....not sure, but many muffler experts say the baffling does wear.

Seems like we all want it reasonably tame upto 2,700 and then let hell break loose.

I've never heard a Novitech, but it's supposedly the same as a Fuch's/Cargraphics and everyone who has one loves it, says it's F-1 at the top and very sweet on the bottom. Same story with X-Ost.

Wish I could hear 'em all...

 

Yeah, I can see where on a Spyder it could be a little bit more of a concern. However, I drive most of the time with one or both windows down and don't have any problems. On the freeway, I sometimes keep one down. Wind noise is more of a problem than the exhaust.

I will say this, the Tubi with the hyper flow cats can be border line too loud in some instances (such at idle it feels just a hair loud), so if you have a spyder, be careful . For a while I considered putting the stock tips back on to quiet things down at idle, but it's really not a major problem and I like the whine it has overall once you pull away and even . At 3000 RPM's there is a little bit of a loud spot, but it's not too bad and easy to shift or give it a little gas to avoid.

Very true. Loving how it sounds on someone elses car and living with it are two different things of course (kinda like women The hyper flow cats and tubi saved weight and also made the car sound amazing.
