I am looking for a 288GTO....are there any in Canada for sale....or maybe PM me a contact name or number.... Any help is appreciated. Txs Carlo
i know of only two in canada, the one at Ferrari Of Ontario, and a factory black one that used to belong to the sultan which now resides..in peices...in ottawa. Carlo, why not bring one in from europe?
The one at FoO is about 500k...red/blk...you may recall that in 97 one caught fire on the 407.........hmmmmmm not sure if that would be the same car. Made headline news back then.
correct on the F.O.O. car.....he will not sell it. (Has about $900M in apparently) I will look at Euro cars anytime, James. Thanks Carlo
No kidding....that would explain it...though i did talk to Marco in the summer about that car and he said everything is for sale....but he said he didnt have the final word on it. Makes sense.
no but my friend who now owns it, also bought his two matching shelby gt500's, one convertible. both cars have roughly 400-500 miles, all numbers matching bla bla bla. he is nuts about his cars, he has actually taken the interior out and vacum sealed the seats, dash etc.,only the shell/frame remains, i've only been to his place once(ottawa) but apparentley they are kept on his farm somewhere outside of ontario. He has offered many many times for me to go see them, but i have no desire to go back to ottawa anytime soon.
carlo i only know of one, which is actually surprising because at the time i brought the other one in, there were something like 12 available, anyways, the one i know of is a 1985 288 gto, intial registration date 05/85 red on black with 16,500km's.
There's this one in Quebec, belongs to Stroll but I don't think he's selling it. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That GTO was always on the European Export lic plates, not street driven. It sat in the showroom mostly or under cover down in the basement. The GTO was still in the showroom when they displayed the 'new' F40 with it's European Export lic. # EE 853 AU. The GTO never even saw a late night time trip to Yorkville like the GL F40 did. The GTO was run at Mosport; with new brakes, track tires and I think the clutch was done to. Luigi's daughter was one of the GTO drivers' at Mosport... ch
Yeah i've seen some old shots of the car at Mosport. Pretty cool. There were some other pretty cars there that I am sure are looong gone. Like a cream coloured (pale yellow) 512BB. I wish it was still a Ferrari Store, its so damn close to me. V..
Sigh...that Ferrari Club of Quebec sticker on th windshield brings back memories. Luigi (of Luigi Sports Cars in Montreal) still has a framed photo hanging in his office that was taken shortly after that car was delivered to his dealership.
AndruetBiche: I too would enjoy seeing your pictures of the GL 288 GTO. Do you have any photographs of the interior? The cloth inserts on the seats were a quite rare option. Even the cloth used was a unique material in that the shade varied from top to bottom on the seat. By "not street driven" I was merely indicating that the Ferrari could not be registered for street use in Ontario. It simply did not meet the Federal mandated bumper standard. Dealer plates would be an option but a red Ferrari is a bit of a heat score. Someone in the west end ran a GTO with the lic plates from his 308... ch
I took them over 20 years ago - no digital pics. Why don't you drop by Gentry sometime I live close by. I also have pics of a silver GTO. Louis loved his GTO - he used his dealer plate on the back. Sorry I don't have interior pics but I know someone who has.
Thanks for your reply. There was a silver GTO in Mexico but it was a repaint. All his Ferrari models were silver. I have a picture of the GTO from the night they introduced the F40 at Gentry Lane. The GTO was parked against the back wall. I will try to find it. TWO Ferrari dealerships in Toronto for a while; you just knew that would not last! Pictures of the interior sounds promising... ch
Back in 1991, my first time visit to Luigi's in Montreal, my friend was bringing his 328GTS for service, and I saw Stroll's 288GTO.. and I believe he also had a daytona spyder... pretty crazy...I think I stood in front of that GT0 for at last 20 minutes.. Now... almost 15 year laters, I can finally bring my own Ferrari to Luigi....
I remember sitting by it having some pizza at luigi old place.... dam memories and he sold it for peeeeeeenuts..... drives me insane... One day i will have that car... one day....
