Update: It's the 41st floor of the Bel Air building - 524 E.72st.

3 Alarm fire under control. F.D.N.Y. confirms 2 dead on the ground floor of the building.

Coincidently.. It's Oct. 11th. - Very sad to say the least.

It's sad because people got hurt. But the date is irrelavant. This is not any kind of "terrorism". The right-wing, knee-jerk idiots on the Politics & Religion thread are already buzzing about "terrorism" and "nut jobs". This is a tragic accident...

I'm SOOOOO tired of everything being linked to "terror". Such b*llsh*t.
    This is just sad...

That said, most importantly, I echo Greg G.'s thoughts that I hope all NY Fchatters are accounted for and well.

This might not have been a helicopter. In fact, most likely a fixed wing....

That's some real insensitive sh*t to say during a tragic accident like this.

Your're lucky I'm not related to Mr. Lidel. Point blank.

    +1

I didn't even know who this guy was and (gulp, flame suit on) I'm not a big baseball fan, but wow, that was totally below the belt and not funny. Sorry, but COMPLETELY crass comment... Have some decency. The guy just died.
Sometimes a joke is just not appropriate...

Ive met him and his family many times. One of the nicest players I have met in my long list of players. He is more of a pitcher than you will ever be. When he was with the A's not to long ago he retired 27 straight batters after the leadoff got a hit or maybe even a walk. Do the math. So check your facts and conscience before you post something like that again.

any NY area pilots here? any possible idea or explanation as to why CL and a instructor were doing at 800 feet and no mayday call and with full power wound up on 72nd street in someone's living room?

Hey I live in the manhattan and on a high floor, I got 'nough sh*t to worry about in this nutty town already...still freakn' over my 308 possibly bursting into flames.

let's learn something from cory's death so that it is not in vain. I am at a loss as to the senselessness of it all, and he was with a instructor, unreal.

came out this am to my daily driver to find someone vandalized the car...real sick...they knew it would be a rainy day so they twisted up and mangled the drivers side wiper.... this was 500 feet from columbus circle...tough town, i tell you, tough town

I'm sure the FAA & NTSB will release a statement concerning the cause of the accident in the not too distant future.

Bottom line in the case of your car: If you own a car of value, whether it be sentimental or financial, you CANNOT leave it on the street. NYC is famous for reasons other than business, fine dining, sight-seeing and Broadway. Guiliani tried his best to put a damper on it, but crime is still rampant here.
