What are your guys' views on these cars? I'm thinking about picking one for the time being since I only have space for 2 cars (wife and my own) and want something that I can use as a daily driver.. but also have some fun with.

So, if anyone has any personal reviews of this car.. or even better, some "great experiences" I'd love to here them.

Or am I just wasting my time and money?

    thanks in advance.

I currently own an e60 M5 and use it as my daily driver...it is a great car that I have driven 11k+ miles in the last 6 months with no problems other than I did need to get the A/C computer reprogramed...other than that it has been perfect. I have owned two prior M5s(e34 and e39) as daily drivers each which I drove 100k+ miles with little problems. The new M6 is basically a two door M5 so you should have a similar experience. The 500hp V10 has a wonderful sound and is very very fast...and the SMG is a joy to use. See www.m6board.com for lots of info from past, present and future M6 owners...have fun...

wow, thank you so much for the reply :)

I've driven the new M5 but have yet to find a dealer willing to test drive the new m6, how can I convince them?

They seem a bit snooty towards me since I'm a bit young, which is always a bummer.

I'm only worried about the weight of the car, total gross weight is near that of 4,000 lbs.. does the v10 500 hp powerplant still pull with that kind of curb weight?

The M6 is so fast! It is so powerful. It will literally push you back into the seat when you drive it.

It's as ugly as any other modern day BMW out there.

Do yourself a favor and drive a Maserati Gransport before you buy an M6. It actually has useable rear seats.

looks are subjective so that's up to you but the car is CRAZY fast. in a straight line, it feels easily as fast, if not faster, than the 360's i've owned.

Not a pretty car, pudgy looking, but I'm sure it's scary fast.

I noticed a revised 5 series is planned for 2008/9 or so, with less of the Bangle Butt. If they redo the 6 and lose the whale tail, that would nick resale, if it matters to you (it would to me).

For six figures, I'd look into an Aston-Martin.

I agree that the Maserati coupe has a much more usable back seat than the M6...but, the M6 has 500 hp that will make you forget that pretty quick...I would own an M6 myself if I didn't need the three passenger back seat of my M5...to me the BMW V10 sounds even better than the Maserati engine, especially at 8250rpm! And, I love the Bangle design of all the new Bimmers...best looking M cars ever IMHO...Plus, the 4 years 50k miles of free service including clutch, brakes... everything but tires makes the new M cars the best daily drivers out there... http://www.m5board.com/articles/m6/weekend_with_the_bmw_m6_v-10_m6boardcom.html ... note a photo of the Maserati coupe and M6 together...

The M6 may have 100 more horsepower than a Gransport, but my money would be on a Gransport on any track.

I suspect you would lose that money...I have seen an M6 at Road Atlanta and they are pretty fast...

Well, I know that a Quattroporte outlapped a new M5 on some comparison track test conducted in Europe. The GS has the same drivetrain as a QP, and the M6 has the same drivetrain as an M5..............I stand by my choice.

I will be one of very few people to say that Bangle has done wonders for BMW looks. He has improved the looks.

No, I do not wear glasses and everyone I know that owns one feels that way. That anti-Bangle design crap started with one magazine writer that didn't like the then new BMW 7 series...and like a rumor, it spread to other magazines that just regurgitated what they had heard/read rather than seeing for themselves and making their own decision...now, a lot of folks think they should dislike it too because the magazine writers must have better taste than them...after all, they make $50k a year working for a car rag...most of them can't even afford a BMW 325i, much less a new M5 or M6. Kinda like the crap some people say about the side grills of the 348 and TR...the people that don't like them are usually the people that can't afford to own one... Both the new M5 and M6 are look stunning in person with plenty of character lines that add to their beauty...when working in my garage I often look at my M5 from different angles and am amazed at the complexity of the design of the sheetmetal...the new M cars are truly beautiful yet aggressive looking. I do think that both the M5 and M6 look best in Interlagos Blue...it really shows the cars lovely lines best IMHO... http://www.m5board.com/photopost/data/536/44Img_4534.jpg

I too read that article and noted that the tests were done with different drivers at different times of the year as well which could make a hugh difference...I bet Alonso could outrun me on a road course with me in my M5 and him in a VW GTI...the driver makes a world of difference on a road course...I have driven both a Maserati coupe and my M5 and there is no way the Maserati would come close to outperforming the M5 or M6 at a road course, oval or drag strip...

You could buy a GranSport, and never see it. You'll get to know the service writer at the local dealership quite well if you got the Maserati... I would get the M6, its better looking, more reliable most likely, and probably faster.

M6 is a beast, interior and the looks are a bit of a letdown, doesnt feel special enough, definately a fast car.

but hey, give a GS a try, its different, has sex appeal and that oh so wonderful v8

I'm a big Bangle fan myself. The older cars look bland and pale in comparison. The only Bangle car I dislike in favor of the older style is the Z4...the Z3 was far sexier.

The Bangle-bashing was one gigantic band-wagon fest. Had the 7 series come out as a new car from a completely new manfucaturer, it would have been praised. Oh well. That happens sometimes.

But, um, oh yeah! The M6 looks like a solid performer to me, but I guess I'd rather buy a used DB9. That car is dead sexy.

Being in the car business, I talk to several people all day long about cars. Unless you are in the car business yourself, I would bet I speak to a whole lot more people about cars than you do. The most positive response I have ever gotten on BMW's latest design direction is lukewarm at best, and that is talking to several BMW owners as well.

The bottom line is that everyone is entitled to their opinion. My opinion is that they are ugly, and from most of the people I have spoken to, that seems to be the general concensus. You obviously have a different opinion, so be it.

Have you seen ANY road test showing the M5 outlapping a Q-P? I didn't think so. I have one article telling me that the Q-P outlapped an M5............I have zero articles telling me the contrary. So if you want to go off of nothing, then go right ahead. You obviously feel that because one car has 100 more horsepower than another, then it outlaps it. Ever drive a Lotus Elise?

I work at a BMW dealership. I hear great things from customers about the new design. Every M6 owner loves the car.
