I just got rid of one of my Fiat 124 Spiders I have been trying to sell forever, so now my Moretti 124 can go into my garage and I can get started on it. Its not quite as bad as it looks in the photo.

Thats how the looks, since I found it last year, I have been finding parts, and digging up info on this car and Moretti itself. It has passed through a number of well known car guys in the last 15 years in So Cal including a Ferrari Salesman at FMOC.

Was this car in a fire? I remember seeing one of these in a warehouse in South Seattle, probably in the mid-to-late 1970's, and it had been badly burned.

I'll be interested to see what you can do with it! Neat car.

WOW that is a great looking car.

very similar to the FIAT Dino, kind of looks like the Dino spider with a top on it. I like it. We are only 2 hours apart too, would like to see this car in person.

These pictures show the subtle difference between Moretti's "5 place" 124 Coupe (top) and their "2+2" 124 Coupe (bottom). The text says that each model has "consegna 45 giorni", which I take it means that they intended to build 45 examples per year, at a price of 1,475,000 lire. This is from the June 1967 issue of Quattroruote.

    Peter, Thank You !

Morettiguy, why is it called a Moretti 124 ? is it powered by 124 motor ? Having never seen one of these I am shocked at the similarities with the Dino. From the front and it looks very similar and the side view has the same upswing to the rear fender as the Dino. So what powers this Moretti ?

The only Moretti I have ever seen was one based on the FIAT 850, nice car but too small for my tastes. It would be really interesting to see your Moretti next to a Dino spider. Front bumpers look they came from a 2.4 FIAT Dino spider, instead of the 2.0 but the rest looks very close. Is the front hood aluminium ?

What does the back-end look like ? (almost did not ask that :) ) very interesting car.

That looks like a Moretti 850 Sportiva, not 124. Pat Braden's old car?

No it is not a Sportiva, it is a 124, called that because it is basied on the Fiat 124 Chassis and drivetrain. Its a coach built body on a 124.

""Was this car in a fire? I remember seeing one of these in a warehouse in South Seattle, probably in the mid-to-late 1970's, and it had been badly burned.""

No it was taken apart to be restored, and then forgotten about, all the paint being stripped for body work and everything but the dash and wiring removed. It sat by the beach for 15-20 years at least.

I have been researching this car and Moretti for the last year, I have files of books, original dealer info, even blank export documents from Moretti. I am going to try to get a site up soon with all the info.

I find that interesting that it is so much like the Dino and is on the 124 chassis, a Dino is very close to 124 but almost no parts interchange it was its own chassis and suspension.

It should be quite a little screamer the 124 motor is one hell of a great motor and unlike the Dino you can get parts for it.

Looks like one hell of a fun project, especially if you have the parts. Looks in pretty good shape and absolutely restorable.

Have you considered which version of the twincam motor you will use? I believe that the first version to come out in '67 was 1438 cc. or thereabouts. Fiat increased the capacity throughout the engine's production life; first to 1600, then 1800, and finally 2 liters. Although the 2 liter motor would not be exactly correct, it is externally nearly identical in appearance and offers substantial hp and torque increases. My dad had a '78 Fiat 132 sedan (never imported to the US) with that engine, and it was very nice. The last 124 Spyders brought into the US also had the 2 liter engines. I think that's what I'd go for, or at least an 1800.

I have a rebuilt early 1800CC DOHC motor I am going to use in the car, the original motor will be stored away. But the car is going to be driven I may even do some of the 60's Performance upgrades from Abarth to the car it just depends right now I am just wanting to get the body restored.

I'd love to find a Moretti someday! I love the small, obscure Italian cars like, OSCAs, Morettis, Staguellinis and the rare Fiats and Lancias.

    Bro,

Those are nice. Good luck with it. Do you know about: http://www.moretti-cars.net/

I know where there is a project car that appears to be the same model as yours. It's been sitting outside in the northeast for twenty years. But the top side looks okay, the glass is all good and the chrome and bumpers are good. I need to go take another look at it.

I like these other models also. The 2500 is my favorite.
