Hi all, My 348 GTC started to exhibit a strange problem today. I had a tiny bit of trouble starting it on the key, and when it started it ran a bit rough with an odd clanking type sound. When I was driving along the motorway (freeway) today it sounded like something came loose and dropped offf (!) the car but I couldn't see anything in the rear view mirror. When I tried to start the car from hot, I noticed what seems like an offbeat sound to the exhaust and the odd occasional clank/rattle from the engine area. On closer inspection the sound appears louder from under the car. I used a pipe for a stethoscope and some of the sound appeared to be coming from the diff casing, but to be honest I reckon it's a cat breaking up. If I tap the right hand cat with the pipe it seemed to increase the frequency of the noise. When I got home, the noise was still there but the car seemed to run fine, the only difference I noted was a slightly higer idle. No slow down lights or anything like that. Bit puzzled on this one. Any ideas? Cheers, Neil
I'm guessing it is the cat. On my F355 a cat went bad (internal honeycomb came apart). Sounded like a lot of clanking and banging. It was so bad that when I put my hand on the cat (before it warmed up!) I could feel the rattling through the casing. Ferrari wanted $4000 for a new cat; found two replacements on the internet, one similar to OEM for about $350 and Hyperflow Cat replacements for about $1000 each. In the end, I was lucky, because my 95 F355 came with an 8 year, 80000 mile warranty on many parts even only remotely related to the emissions system. Ferrari replaced mine under warranty. Good luck

Hi Neil Maybe it's an age thing...though probably a coincidence as I think mine has done more miles...but my GTC failed the MOT on emissions just recently, so I had to have two new cats from KHPC. Didn't get the Ferrari ones, and also didn't take the opportunity to get a Tubi....am waiting to hear one first Of course while the car was in the garage I got a few other bits and pieces sorted too, most expensive MOT in the world! Great service from KHPC by the way CG
Pretty common problem. Infact I'm suprised it lasted this long. Go with the hyperflow and save money with the increased flow. Darrell.
Hahaha... yeah I live in Montana, a state inspection is when they check for registration and insurance card.
Is that cat watchin' porn in the above picture and playin' with his or her self(didn't want to be sexest)? We have rules at my house, no playin' with yourself.
I just sold my 348 spider 4 days ago and I had replaced the cats. Nothing wrong with the factory ones just upgraded to aftermarket. They have 10,000 miles on them and are in great shape. I'll sell them for $550. PM me if interested.
