You know it. We know it.... They know it. Whoever wins Laguna Seca's 23 points will claim the ALMS GT-1 crown for 2006. Up for grabs are the Manufacturer's, Team, and Driver's Championships. Team work, driving skill, car attributes, weight/air penalties and luck will all play their part... GT1 Championship Standings Manufacturer/Points 1. Chevrolet 170 2. Aston Martin 163 3. Pedro Lamy, Aston Martin DBR9, 124 Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Mercedes, Lamborghini, and Jaguar are without a doubt some of the greatest names in sports car racing history. So then why do they shy away from the ultimate in sports car competition, GT1 racing? The answer is "competition". Is losing to Corvette for them just too intimidating to consider? We think YES. Every few years we hear rumors that one of these marquees is going to enter GT1 racing - (the last being Porsche). The reality is that racing against the Corvettes around the clock at gruelingly competitive tracks like Le Mans, Sebring, and Road Atlanta is a formidable challenge and a "brand-image risky" undertaking (Corvette dominates the GT1 class, winning 5 of the last 6 Le Mans races.) All these marquees have a heritage of racing performance. Many have even been to Le Mans in their earlier years, but history is one thing, and going up against today's mighty C6.R is another. ...And as they say in racing: "The older I get, the faster I used to be!" I want to experience the corkscrew one day. A track I definitely want to drive on. I haven't been paying attention to the LeMans but I have been watching the World-Challenge on the Speed Channel. On the 22nd, they drive at Leguna Seca and it should also be interesting. Acura is currently in first place ...Dodge and Mazda are right behind .. and BMW in dead last
Yeah they would just be getting toasted by the Vipers and be tied with the STS-V (jdogg?) http://www.world-challenge.com/events/points.php
More importantly, everyone should note how there is no Audi there. That is because audi is the super ultimate car company. P.S. I got to drive Laguna Seca two years ago in a MB SLR. It was unbelievable. That track is so amazing.
??? c6r isn't in the world-speed challenge. (i went off topic with another racing league) but audi is and they're just ahead of bmw but behind everyone else im jealous. i want to bring my car out there with R-compounds just for fun.
lol you would have credibility in this post a month ago, maybe even a couple of weeks ago. But now you're shopping for a Lamborghini so I don't know about you.
LOL you forgot the other half of the pic with the other 2 GT3's in the lead after they exited the corkscrew LOL dont worry, im still a Porsche guy at heart. Best Sport's Car's in the world!
