Hey, was anyone from the board at the autism night on sunday? I was there, it was a great event.
what is autism night about...i could make a few jokes..but i won't? (car related??? atcually..i offered an autistic kid i mentored for year last year a ride in my car...but he was satisfied enough with pizza)
Kudos for mentoring the kid, and even if members find your post wrong regarding the joke in the end you made a positive difference in his life.
I hope you let the slice cool of first. You know hot cheese touching top of the mouth gives you blisters. OK, what is Autism Night? and will there be whores?
Excuse us? What the hell are you talking about? Do you even know any of the people posting here? Just as one example of how wrong you are, Niptuck is responsible for organizing one of the most successful hospital charity shows this past summer, where dozens of cars turned out just to put a smile on the faces of kids with disabilities. Oh and here's another example, I grew up with a family member with Down Syndrome and have known people with autism and have and would do a lot to help such causes. Oh and... here's a third, many of us recently participated and/or donated to a charity event to raise money for a children's disability that the daughter of one of our tri-state members suffers from. So maybe you want to think before you make statements like the idiotic one you just made. If I've misunderstood you somehow (hard to see how), then apologies in advance. Otherwise, if you don't know what you're talking about, just keep your mouth shut.
Greg, Yes..I know about autism. Do I know the details about all programs relating to a medical condition?? No. Given that it was a new thread and on Fchat...I was not sure if the program was in any way related to a benefit involving exotics. Can you fill me in?? That I tried put some humor into it...my bad, see how that is misunderstood. Pizza-car thing was not a joke...i meant it word for word, not supposed to be funny.
I was not joking about anything. I mentored him 2 hours a week. I coordinated a program last year hooking up medical students to mentor 6-8th graders...totaled 280 hours by the end of the year. We had pizza...there's no big deal. I wasn't kidding. The relation about car anc pizza...i don't see the joke. He most likely had Asperger's syndrome though...very very smart kid...but had lots of difficulty maintaining eye contact when speaking, body posture, and some other social awkwardness. All in all, we became great friends, he looked forward to me coming there...and I was very blunt about telling him ways to improve the social factor after we got comfortable. There is no joke in this. The post was started on a car forum...I have no idea what "night" meant. When I said I could make a few jokes about this...in retrospect, I regret saying that...that does not sound right and is easily misunderstood...but in absolutely no way did I have intent to scoff. and...thanks jhawad. now please answer...details on the night????
hey guys, sorry for the misunderstanding there, there was a benefit for autism on comedy central - night of too many stars, and there were some fcars parked around back for the autistic kids to sit in, etc.
That is awesome. I am planning a second annual Hospital Exotics Run for April/May 2007. Last April- 78 cars showed, including an Enzo, and the event hit channel 4 and channel 5 news. Difference will be that this year, the plan is to also invite terminally ill patients (undergoing treatment for cancer)...and have a line of cars waiting to pick them up and give them a ride (about 6 blocks) around the city...escorted by NYPD. And also, whatever happened last April...to be repeated. Stay tuned...too early to advertise as of yet [and then a Fun Run afterwards]
That's all fantastic. It just seems a little odd and quite conflicted for some to make fun of the very people they claim to know and help. Compassion, for most people, isn't something which can be turned on and off like a lightswitch. Seriously though, what could be funnier than kids with disabilities? It's a laugh a minute.
Ha-Ha. Truly, this is way too serious for an automobile board. My apologies to all for getting riled up. As you were.......

I was not at the Comedy Central autism benefit - but I do know the folks at the Somerset Hills Learning Institute that put on this one: http://www.somerset-hills.org/halloweenball.html If anyone is interested I hear it is amazing.
