I know some business coleagues who regularly ship to HK. I'll make some enquiries let you know.
Btw, are you related to the air testing equip manufacturers? Have a few bones to pick with you if you are :)

Just a hunch, but I'd imagine it might be considerably cheaper, logistically easier and perhaps a lot of fun... to ship it to Melbourne, then drive it down....

Not a bad idea. Anyway, have contacted a recommended shipper and they will email me on Monday with quotes for delivery to Hobart and to Melbourne.

As a ball park figure and assuming you have owned the car long enough not to have to pay duty ( over 2 years?) it will be around $3k.

sheesh... it only cost me a little bit more to bring my BB from UK to Melbourne... including a 3 hour round trip covered collection from retail showroom in Kent on truck (plus some personal effects), transport to docks, packing into container etc AND insurance....

all arrived safe and sound, without a scratch/dent/problem.

Thanks Steve, what company? It's the best quote I've had so far.
Hi Phil, I've had a few people tell me it's gunna cost US$1000/1500. But they never seem to know the name or location of the company. I've contacted Phoenix Freight in Aus, 3 phone calls 2 emails, No quote or responce back. AFS Visa Freight in H.K. Same result Plus a third who I wont bag just yet because at least they acknowleged my enquirery. Please let me know who you used. Maybe they ship from Asia or can recommend someone.
    cheers, mike

This seems expensive to me too. I suspect the quote includes offloading the container in Melbourne or Sydney, then reloading on an Australian coastal ship. Shipping companies don't volunteer this information - you have to extract it from them.

just a note of warning....not sure how tight Aus is but having gone through importing my Mondial into NZ I would seriously rethink if I had to do it again. Any Ferrari over a certain age will have rust and the NZ compliance people are obsessed with rust. I've had to have the whole front of the car apart to deal with this, (plus they failed it on a cracked indicator lense) I guess a 348 would have a bit of rust too? Good luck and did you know that NZ has the highest % of Ferrari's to people ratio in the world?

I used Nick Wright at Chief Logistics, who are UK based, and Crown Customs Services here in Melbourne, as my broker/agent.

Both were faultless in my experience.

Thanks Phil and Steve. I can find these Co. on the web.
And Jeff, I'm sending it to Tasmania, You can do just about anything car wise there. A few years back I converted a U.S. 911 targa from left to right, cut the hoop off, did a tubo speedster conversion, welded in a roll cage, fitted competition 3 piece wheels, incorect magnesium engine and cogbox and this thing didn't even have a roof. It had a normal visual inspection, no emission or noise test or engineers report and I drove home. (the long way) Registered. Ripped the interior back out fitted the "good" exhaust and went racing on the weekends, commuting though the week.
My 348 is a late 94 build with 48k on the clock so its in very solid condition, no garage queen though. They go through a pretty tough annual inspection here so your force to keep them in solid shape.
Most Ferraris per capitor! That's a huge claim. But I have no evidence to sugest your wrong, So... that's amazing. Still, Hobart is ranked the worlds 3rd most expensive city to live in. Sometime it's not the obvious answer.
I post how this pans out. Cheers, mike

As long as you know that you will have to wait till 2014 to register it in any other state, rust or otherwise.

I don't believe it. Sounds like populist media or govt propoganda. Show us the proof Jeff!

mmmmm Cant prove or disprove the numbers but will investigate, claim came from the club here so who I am to argue??!

Compliance still have my car in pieces, whole front end off to remove rusty bits and now they wont allow a cracked indicator lense!

My Grand Cherokee arrived today, its only a year old so rust...................

Looking at the number of registered cars here verses population I make Ferrari ownership 0.01% of population. Thats sounds pretty high to me.

Do you have a yellow "personal import" plate on the car? If so you have no restrictions apart from roadworthiness.

Otherwise, only vehicles over 15 years old (I thought it was 20, my mistake) can be registered in NSW, with an engineers certificate (includes ADR emissions, belts, glass, etc). Normally the cost of this negates any benefit from privately importing a car. 1994 + 15 = 2009

Interesting that the NSW RTA will register a non-complianced car that has been interstate-registered for 2 years. So Tasmania's apparently weak inspection system can be used to "back door" a vehicle that wouldn't normally qualify.
