I think the new Superamerica is rather unappreciated, but I absolutely love it. Id like to know what its like owning one, from anyone who would care to share. Any great experiences behind the wonderful Cavallino Rampante badged wheel? Maybe flipping the top and nailing it through a tunnel? Racing someone?....

Also, what is it like at its 199mph top speed...or is it 198mph?

    Pics would also be great.

It is really a wonderful car in that it is a perfectly capable, real world daily driver. I use mine every day. It has a real trunk and is exceptionally comfortable. The roof mechanism is a gem.
I have the GTC package with the CCB's and it also came with the so called sport exhaust, which was not very sporty. I changed the exhausts out for the X-OST stainless setup. The car sounds real mean now, with suitable noises when you downshift. It pops as it drops revs slowing down and really growls when you accelerate. People don't really expect it to sound so aggressive.
I think it looks wonderful and I enjoy it every chance I get.

Thanks for the insight, that is exactly what I was looking for. I think a good aggressive sound is wonderful, and the GTC package must really be balls of fun. Beautiful car.

I agree with you the SuperAmerica is very under appreciated, down here in Africa I have seen 2, one on the track, standard car no GTC package and it sounds far too muted but on the straights one does get a little of that V12 magic, but for me the car is very colour sensitive, the first car I saw was in Rosso Scuderia, and didnt look all that great, to much orange, the second car that I have seen was in Rosso Corsa and looked fabulous.

Does anyone know how many more will be comming of the production line or has the line closed?

It was a limited edition model. Only 359 were made and as you can guess they sold out in a flash. Lucky you that you have seen some...I would love to see one. I've read a few times that the V12 note is the best of them all, but that was in magazines. I've heard otherwise from owners and bystanders.

    It was 559.

I'm more interested in total 550 Barchetta numbers, as I've never gotten a concrete figure.

448 is a generally accepted number for the 550 Barchetta.

The Barchetta is so deadly beautiful with the top down (and so butt ugly with the top up). SA never pushed the same buttons for me. Also, with the 599 such a quantum leap forward, it has become a classic in only 1 year! I have heard cynics state that the SA was a project to clear out 575 parts but that seems a bit harsh to me. There is a brand new never registered red SA for sale with the Ferrari dealer in HK and several others are for sale with independent dealers in HK if anyone is looking for a RHD car

Yes, the 550 Barchetta Pininfarina was a limited production of 448 cars... But there are more than 448... :)

Aren't the dash badges limited to 448?
Or are you referring to the aftermarket coupe to conversions?

As one of the "559" who has one I may never give up my SA for any reason. It has proven to be the perfect car for every use. The flip-top roof is simply a work of genius. It is quick, reliable and doesn't compromise trunk space at all. I love the responsiveness of a big torquey V12 and I love the versatility of the car as a coupe or convertible at your whim. It really is an instant classic and it is usable all the time even in a rare Phoenix rainstorm where it is impervious to the the elements, whereas the 550 Barchetta is only a fairweather car. That is huge difference and I wouldn't trade my SA for a Barchetta and a boatload of cash.
I really use mine every day unless there is an absolute need to carry more than one passenger.

No, not aftermarket cut conversions... These cars were not equipped with production number plaques and were thusly dubbed prototypes...

Yeah, but for Superamerica money you could have a 430 Spider and hang-out at the "in" bars in Scottsdale with the other 430 Spiders. ;)

Sorry for Morphing this thread into 550 Barchetta vs 575 SA discussiion, but it seems these two are market competitors.

I found this thread on maintenance of a TR vs 550 with the 575m perspective thrown in, making the 550 Barchetta the more sensible choice.

From my POV "sensible"" really means the abilty to use the car all the time - in rainy weather, on cold nights, on very hot days - where the ability to close the roof and use the heat or air conditioning makes the car usable at any time.
I think the Barchetta looks really good, but unfortunately it is absolutely one-dimensional. It is an open car, and that disqualifies it from most of the driving conditions I encounter on a daily basis, the heat in Arizona being the primary factor. I would imagine the frequent inclement weather in the northeast and plains states would pose a problem too.

From a maintenance POV my 575 (before the SA) and the SA have been dead reliable all the time. These cars are well built. They are not Ferraris of the early nineties that were as bad as Lucas Electronics laden British cars.

410SA, Nice to hear about the pleasure behind such a beautiful car!!!!
Question for you: Do you think it would have been a little better for Ferrari to go back to their "Old Roots" with regard to the SA this time around? What i mean is most of the 50's SA's had small to really significant differences between one another (cosmetically). The 400SA's really differed as well in not only colors but body design and interior design on dramatic levels. Do you think some of that, was a little lost with this new SA? The body remains basically the same on most of them but the variance is in the colors mainly and options. What are your thoughts?

Not that I have either, but the Barchetta is timeless, more classic and deadly sinuous in my minds eye. I love that car. I could probably leave the SA. It's all about the 'Little Boat'.
