As an owner of both - the Z-06 has 2x the mileage as the Ferrari. Repairs for the Z-06, my sons allowance. Alot of people with less money than we have "dream" about vettes. I hope your chair is comfortable.

Just having fun - I have awakened many a night to "look" at my car too.

I hate plastic cars. I believe the Z06 to have the most plastic of any car made. Plastic body, interior, and suspension......open the hood, MORE PLASTIC!!

    goes fast though.

crappy corvette?? no such thing.. ive owned a corvette since the C5s came out and that car was absolutely amazing .. especially for the cost. And the older vettes (67, 69, etc) are stunning to look at.

This new Z06 is a monster, will basically eat everything but an Enzo. Chevy needs to price this car over $100K.

Now.. let me say THIS, i did sell my vette for a Ferrari, and the pleasure from driving a Ferrari compared to the vette isnt even in the same ballpark. The Ferrari is sooooo much fun...

While i would agree that Ferrari is a million times more fun to drive and rare, the Vette is no slouch!!!

I got back from the track last friday night from a little drag racing. It was about 65 degrees out. Probably 70 on the track. My car has LG headers, tune and a halltech race filter on stock tires. It dynoed 22 more hp than stock. I had my passport GT2 timer in the car on each run so I got alot of other times as well. It was accurate within about .03 sec with the track timer.

I pulled the QT times off my slips and the rest off the timer. I had to make all 3 passes within 25 minutes as I was late to the track. So no cool down in between runs and tires were all fully inflated.

I'm a Corvette C5 Z06 owner throwing down 485 flywheel hp in a 3100 lb vehicle with 3.73 rear gears....and its fast, handles great, has great braking yet I realize the true allure to the ferrari brand is not just excellent performance but rather the ability to make the driver feel as though he is driving a formula one race car on the street.

That in my opinion is the reason the Ferrari has such great allure.

Speed, handling, braking performance and good looks aside.....the ferrari gives the better race car like driving experience.

    Thats what its all about...

Is the Corvette C6 Z06 an amazing sports car? Yes without a doubt. Is it as good at making the driver feel as if he is driving a formula one race car? No.

sorry, couldn't resist:) yeah, no one has said a corvette is slow, it is in fact far from slow...it is a huge bargain in objective performance terms. but, subjectively('sensations'--smell--sounds--'feel', etc), that's what most are getting at here, it is not nearly the same bargain. selling a car with the performance of a Z06, but also it's build quality--fit finish--relative rarity, for over 100k? I think not. cars of that 'class' are becoming more and more quality oriented..presumably cuz customers of that sort are sick of 'cheap' feeling cars...

The next iteration of Z-06 (Blue Devil) due around end of 2007 will cost over $100,000 - have about 650hp and weigh less than present car. Maybe we can get a "Ferrari Smell" to hang from the mirror.

    Just having fun

A Twin Turbo Volkswagon R32 would destroy the 2006 Corvette Z06, Saleen and Ferrari Enzo and costs under $60K. You can get a used one for less.

    565 HP and 0-60 of 3 seconds:

    http://www.hpamotorsports.com/products_turbo_twin.htm

It looks like a VW Golf.

100K? wow, that would be a big leap from the norm--for what we normally think of as "corvette"...instead of "ferrari smell":) hanging from the rearview mirror...they should just put a decent stretch of connolly in the car...use higher quality plastics, metal, etc...that would make it a bit more luxo...but of course that wouldn't really make sense if it's to be a 'hard core' iteration. and lastly, for the sound, they can put in some sort of real time sound emitter coming through the speakers emulating a ferrari'ish tune:)

and with regards to the road and track test, in the article you can see that the 430 and gallardo are both on pirelli pzero race tires.. enhanced grip enhances acceleration times. road and track did not control the test since they borrowed the results from an article from an italian magazine... i dont blame the italians too much.. cant have the italian cars losing to american cars on italian soil :)

i understand the emotion you are talking about in the ferrari, and it is fantastic.
i do think saying the z06 has no emotion is not correct, at least for me.
i especially feel emotion when pushing that 7.0 liter v8 up the rpm range, and even just idling with the mean rumble.. i feel emotion when i think about how i am an American, and am one of the few people left in my country that takes pride in driving an American car and one with a uniquely American attitude and emotion... the Porshes and Ferraris that i see all around are very nice, but in comparison to the raw, very American z06 they are a bit too refined, almost prissy and effeminent in comparison. America is not about being refined, it is about being scrappy, badass, and effective, and the z06 is very much all of that, and i take a certain patriotic pride in driving it every day. this car has tons of emotion as far as i am concerned, simply different emotion. I wont drive most of the crap the american car companies are dishing out, but i will jump in when i see them finally create something i know they are capable if they finally put their minds to it, something awesome like the z06. p.s. i do like the 430 and most ferraris a lot too :)

I am surprised that nobody mentioned that the Vette has 2.7 more liters then a 430. That's good for 220hp in a BMW engine for example. Just because a Pontiac sticks a 3.7 or what have you into their Grand Am, doesn't make it a better car then a BMW 3er with a 3.0 liter engine.

    This is a great thread.

A bunch of Ferrari owners getting baited into a pointless argument with some 'vette guys.

I guess we have nothing better to do?? Isn't there a stock you need to buy? Maybe a Cohiba you need to light up? A nice Cabernet Sauvignon that needs to breathe before consuming? Perhaps that fine looking 23 year old supermodel lying next to you in your Maui beach house needs some attention.

C'mon fellas, we all know that NO self respecting Ferrari owner has a 9-5 job, we have all the leisure time in the world. Let's use it more effectively than arguing with Chevy owners.

This has been a public service message presented by the "United Ferrari Snobs of America".

    Thank you.
