Has there been a post on the proper method of setting cam timing on a 355? I have searched both old and current forums to no avail.
Started to do it once but there was so much arguing about using the marks as opposed to doing it correctly I just gave up. To my knowledge it has never been explained correctly.
Brian, If we can have everyone leave their opinions at home would you try again to explain it.(I remember the last debacle) I think it would be great service to those who like to know how this works. Regards, Vern
Brian, how timely is that. I was waiting for the right time to ask, "Are you feeling LUCKY, well.....?" Inside joke from Brian and my debreifing session yesterday. Not meant to flame or poke fun at anyone. We both got hammered to ^&(* on that request before. Dave
How portable is your motor? We are taking one out right now for a (looks both ways over his shoulder and speaks in a lower voice) valve job but it will be a while before it goes back together. If yours is portable and you want to bring it here on a week day for a couple of hours I will give you a mechanic to show you how to do it and you can take pictures and write up a description of how to do it. Sounds like a lot of work but if you have a pick up it would not even need to be unloaded. Can just push it up to the tail gate and do it there. Whatever you do just don't tell that guy that insists I hate 355's. My offer will get him all confused and have him spitting food up on his shirt again.
Let me mull that one over for awhile. I would have to find a Pick-up, I just ordered the parts package from Dan @ Ricambi, also a clutch. The car goes on the lift Monday and will be there for maybe a month. Re-do wheels, paint bumper, ect.
If that is the case, if my valve job goes back together first you can come watch this one being done if you like. Nothing beats seeing it done.
Here? Surely you jest. I'll email it to you if you want but life is too short to deal with that again. Did you see that engine overhaul thread? Rob had to close it. Jesus Christ some people need to start wearing long pants and be a grown up.
Um, Jesus Christ actually wore a robe, not long pants. He could however, perform one heck of a valve job if he asked his Dad for help. Whoa. Note to self: must stop drinking while working.
Yeah... hell what was I thinkin' I joined this site to learn more about a passion I have and look what's happened...crap. Regards, Vern
Yeah, I could not believe it. That was a great thread. I totally enjoyed it. I like stirring pots. Ferraridriver, change your schedule and take RD up on his offer. There is no substitute for watching a pro work. They do little things they don't even talk about because they think it just a matter of standard operating proceedure but it is those little things that really make the job right. Early in my career as a home mechanic I took every offer a pro gave me and would seek out good FNA mechanics and pay them to come to my house and teach me. I think it paid off.
I'll keep you up to date about the progress. We just took it out and are assesing the extent of the needed work. The heads should come off today, latest Monday. Let you know.
Hey its all in good humor! Keeps the senses sharp and the BS at bay! Its nice to see all the perspectives laid out for all to see. That is a big reason why "forums" exist.
