Nobodies mentioned it because it's a terrible argument. WHo cares how many liters it has? It doesn't make it better if you have less liters. I mean the efficiency argument is so tired. But lets take one last look at it. If you look at the 7.0(LS7) in the Z06 you willl find it's smaller than the BMW 5.0 motor in the M5. It's lighter. It has alot more power(torque). It's cheaper. It's less complicated, thus likely more reliable on race day. It gets 30mpg on the freeway. But the M5 engine did win best engine of the year. I guess that's good for something huh.

This is a true story. But it's how they keep the cost on such high performance car reasonable. But when you compare it to an F40s it looks downright luxurious. I love being able to get mine dirty, scratch it up, break things, not wash it for a weak and put a ton of miles on it. Not to mention racing the **** out of it on the track every chance I get.
With my Ferrari I always felt paranoid parking it. Couldn't leave it dirty of course and I dare not break anything. It's very nice not to have to worry about all the typical Ferrari stuff. Great daily driver. Of course nothing compares to the thrill of driving a Ferrari or the cool you get from pulling up to the Valet at the hottest club in town. I just use the Z06 for different things.

Remember Ferrari folks, DeNile is not just a river in Egypt.

Are the non-plastic upgrades of the Ferrari worth the extra $100k?

No it's not. If I were to compare an Infinity G35 to a BMW 325 (Euro) people would point out the displacement difference. A little difference is not a problem, but we are talking 2.7 liters here. 4 liters in the case of the Viper. It proves that Ferrari is still a better engine manufacturer.

Oh and BMW V10 is 100hp/liter while your cherished LSWhatever does not even come close hp/liter wise to a regular BMW 3.0 which is much more hightech, very light and comparatevly fuel efficient.

Why does hp/liter matter? The LS7 is smaller physically, lighter, less complicated, more efficient, more powerful, etc... I love Ferrari and BMW engines for their technical nature. I've owned both but I still don't think because they cost more and are more complicated they are better. My M3s engine was cool but it didn't have any torque and it was prone to failures. My Ferraris engine was cool as well. I loved the way it sounded but again it had no torque. Those engines don't do anything better, nothing. And an engine is made to move a sports car, not to impress your mechanic.

Well put!! Also, to consistently move your sports car!! You have to love a motor that can be flogged to death for 100k miles and still post near new numbers!!!

I would like to interject a few thoughts here, although I'm not sure it's worth the time. What the hell...
First, accept my apologies on behalf of some Vette owners who are using the impressive #'s put out by the new Z06 and attempting to make themselves feel better by shoving those #'s in the face of other non-Vette car enthusiasts.
I own a C6Z, and I absolutely love the car. I have always loved Vettes.
I have also always loved Ferraris. And Lambos. And Porsches. And Lotus'. And Maseratis. And Astons. And- well, you catch my drift.
With hard work and just the right dash of luck that all continues to go well for me, I will get to own one or several of these other cars in the not-too-far future.
When I do, I will always remain respectful of others and the cars they drive. Why? Because it's the decent and mature way to act toward others.
Especially when we're talking about others with the same interests.
It's like drummers arguing over Bonham vs. Moon, or Peart vs. Bozzio. Number one, who f*cking cares? Two- neither is "better", as that is relative and opinions will vary from person to person. In the end, no one is "right".
It is a bit disappointing to see some of the Ferrari owners here resorting to comments about the Vette as though they and the people that drive them are lowly trash. If you're attempting to argue that Ferrari owners are a "more-educated" or "higher-class" bunch, then you should think twice before resorting to childish comments.
On the other hand, it's pleasing to see quite a few members here (as well as other car forums) complimenting the new Z, as there is no debating (at least not for anyone with a properly functioning brain) that the new Z is a mighty impressive car for the $.
I do believe, as I touched on above, that many new vette owners/supporters have let the new Z go to their heads a bit.
When you think about it from a rational perspective, the whole debate is really pretty silly and no one honestly walks away feeling any better about anything.
That said- Dr. StrangeLove: You are quite the moron and could probably use some serious therapy.
    To everyone else:
Cheers and happy driving. Whatever your preference.

One must remember that the European motors are making the power they are with plenty of rpm. They are wonderful engines, full of craftsmanship and cutting edge design/engineering, but they're not making their 500+/- hp at the rpm the LS7's making it.

If BMW's 5.0 liter V10 made 500 hp at the same rpm as the 7.0 liter LS7 (6300 rpm), then I would say the European motor is a superior design. The V10 makes its peak power at 7750 rpm. It's also worth mentioning the LS7's considerable low end and peak torque advantage (+90 ft. lbs.). The extra cubic inch is indeed valuable and does not merely compensate for a lesser design.

The new 6.3 liter AMG motor is quite an achievement. Similar power and torque to the LS7, yet it doesn't require big rpm to make it - 6800/5200 vs. 6300/4800.

The LS7 is light weight, fuel efficient, emissions friendly and smooth. It makes power at low rpm's, yet it sill revs high (7K rpm) and pulls hard up top. It doesn't make the exotic sounds the Euro motors do, (which, admittedly, is very important to the enjoyment of a car) but it does sound pretty damn good. Not a bad effort by GM. My $.02

I agree. Corvette has proven itself over many years most resently at Le Mans in GT1. For the money Corvette is a lot of car. The coming Blue Devil will leave most street legal cars far behind but I for one don't care. The look isn't for me nor is the feel of the interior which I find very plastic. This I fully understand is simply personal preference.

I do think the small block motor is one of the great racing motors of all time and love the one in my Lola.

As much as I love exotics to work on, to drive and to hear if there is one great motor, the gold standard, that would be it.

    Simple, reliable, powerful.

Boss Kettering must have been proud.

That particular one won one Can AM, one USRRC, Nassau Speed Weeks, SCCA "A" Sports racing Champinoship twice, set the all time Mt. Equinox Hillclimb record, went 40K street miles since 1971 and is still running strong.

The NASCAR boys make 750HP and rev to 11,000 with that block.
