    AUDI stands for Auto Union Deutsche Industrie. It was a combination of 4 car builders that combined themselves much like GM here. The logo of 4 intertwining rings represents the 4 companies. In their early days they went by the name of Auto Union for short but eventually changed it to AUDI.

    Horch was but one of the four.
