Plans were recently approved for a road course north of San Marcos, literally a stones throw from the existing oval in Kyle. The track is called Harris Hill Road and the website for it is http://www.harrishillroad.com I went out to the facility Wednesday to take a look, and they invited me to tag along this morning for aerial photos of the place. At the moment they only have permits to pull core samples, but are hoping for building permits soon to begin The Big Work. Looks to be an incredibly fun track, all 1.8 miles of it. Going around the dirt, theres a ton of elevation change... my prediction is for a Hallett-esque track thats easier on brakes and of course 20 minutes from my shop! Here are my aerial shots (and a video when it gets done uploading): http://www.taylorrotorsports.com/h2r/
Geez, road courses are going to be as common as golf courses next decade. Good for us! Are they self-financed? Only the self-financed tracks become a reality like MSR Cresson, Eagles Canyon, and MSR Houston.
As far as I know based on discussions with the owners if nobody joins it'll be a place to demo cars for their "regular" business. My guess would be membership funds go toward amenities or more of them.
ok what is their regular business?? I know John Hennessay just bought a drag strip outside houston (that makes sense) but what do these guys do?
Fantastic, life gets better and better! For those of you who aren't into racing/tracking your cars yet... the writing is on the wall Cheers Michael,
Very cool to see a track a stone's throw away from where I live, granted I can't afford to be a memeber or have a car to track, but it would be cool to come watch some of you guys out there at some point.
Got off the phone with Eric shortly ago. Seems like a nice guy and this roadcourse isn't going to be just another pipe dream project. Mentioned this site to him as there were some folks with some interest in this track. He is hoping to get the last of his much need permits by January with a projected opening set for June(permits pending). Aparantly this course has been in the works since 2004. They waited until only recently to start announcing after they were approved by the local govt. and basic permits were obtained. Only thing "limiting" to this track seems that they more than likely will not be able to host full on race cars due to noise restrictions. . . .I don't think Rob would have issues with that in his Rx-8, lol.....This was due to the city. Best of luck to Eric and the crew! I'm looking forward to shedding some rubber on that track. . . .
Ha, RX8 has no muf and cats may be on way out too. 355 C blows 107 Db. at Laguna sound check. Guess I won't be joining.
Yeah, but it is what it is. I'll take having to run one of the racecars with a "legal" exhaust system and not having to drive 100+ miles over my other options. Their limit is 85db at the property line.
85 db at the property line which looks very close to the track in a number of places? Ain't no way any race car with any muffler will be close to 85 db. Several tracks we go to have restrictions of 103 db and a Ferrari Challenge muffled won't do that. Tuff hill to climb right off the bat.
I guess I forgot to post it here... but part of their "deal with the devil" <rimshot> is that cars must be registered and inspected. So, 85db at the property line is not as much of a stretch since theoretically you have to pass emissions.
Track is paved. Last weekend safety checks were conducted, this weekend some further tests should be conducted, once the weather clears. Should have video if it goes well.
Don't know if I'm really supposed to talk about it yet but most car guys in my area know what I'm talking about. It'll be a great playground for the automotive enthusiasts in Austin. There have already been several events there. I even have photos if you look around my photo gallery. Image Unavailable, Please Login
One track paved last week, and a major expansion on another would have paved this week, but for the rain; probably next week. Indeed a great year for tracks in Central Texas! More new tracks in 2007 than golf courses, never again.
Are you talking about the Driveway? I've been on both courses, pie in the sky expansion or not theres no comparison. I'll stick to going once at the Driveway.
