i had just got done with a race at Laguna Seca and all my team and drivers where gonna get together at another drivers house to have some dinner and reflect on the day, when we where leaving the track i saw a huge puff of smoke come up out of the trees almost directly where we where going, so i decided to check it out and we came apon the enzo fully engulfed in flames, one fire truck just pulling up and thats it, they where just starting to put out the fire, it was too late. I went back the next day too see if i could see what happened and their was nothing, no marks, no skids, no scrapes up the curb or anything, and we all know how low the car is, not even a mark from the tires on the dirt, it was a complete mystery, it was on his own residential street from what i was told and he was very familier with it. We did find his mirrors about 250 or so feet up the road in the brush so he must have had some sort of speed. when the car hit the tree it lifted up and did a 90 degree turn and ended up pointing towards the road. after a matter of moments it was a pile of ash and just 4 rims, sitting in the same spot they had been when on the car. When i was up their the next day i met a few of his fellow ferrari club friends and showed them the pictures i have of the whole crash, they had no idea what had happened like me but i hope the pictures helped a little to explain. They told me Gary was just an all around awsome guy and a great friend to many many people. He will truly be missed, god bless his wife and kid, our thoughts and prayers will be with you. if anybody has any questions or new info let me know. i can post the pics if need be but they are graphic. Oh ands everybody let this be a lesson that life is fragile, and we all need to slow down and leave the speed at the track.

There are a lot of Garys friends here and a couple of family members. To say it would be insensitive would be a grotesque understatement.

A while back there was a post specifically to show others "the aftermath" if that could be found I think this would be a worthy addition. Saying it is insensitive depends on perspective I guess. I think that it is good for people to see what could happen, even if you are a skilled driver, as long as they have a choice.

Just remember that if you do put the pictures here, make people use a link to reach them. I wouldn't want to see something that horrific on accident.

what possible good would posting pics of this tragic acccident acheive? I am utterly disgusted that someone would even consider posting pics. I did not know this gentleman but his family certainly deserves respect and privacy. They surely do not need to deal with someone posting pics of their deceased loved one on the internet. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Well that is why I suggested making it a link.

You're right, it is a horrible tragedy, but I feel that seeing pictures would only cause others to be more cautious. Since it seems as though this is obviously not a universal feeling, I'm sorry I returned to the subject.

    Son, do 2 things.

#1 Reread what I wrote and think about it, really think about it.

#2 At 15 years old you do not have the life experience to make such comments, so please don't.

Rifledriver I don't want to start an arguement in such a depressing thread, please check your pm for my reason behind asking for this to be allowed. I do take back my statement though. Please do refrain from posting pictures to show respect towards the family.

I wish the best to the family, I know how it is to lose a loved one.

    Hi,

    I agree 100%

Unfortunately we didn't see the same sentiments or respect on this very forum when there was the tragic enzo crash in Europe. Those pictures were posted, zoomed, photoshopped, analysed etc. It was like a feeding frenzy of sharks arguing about the photos, what happened, was there mechanical failure, what car it was, who the owner was etc, etc, etc. It was quite sickening.

Its a bit of a lesson to everyone. In my opinion it is insensitive to post, analyse, pictures of someones death scene on line. It doesn't matter if they are a beloved Enzo driver from SoCal that people personally know or an "unknown" Enzo driver from Europe, or a non ferrari driver in an anonymous car. The same rules should apply.

Best Wishes to the family and friends of Gary, he sounds like one of lifes good guys.

    Cheers

    Robbo

I CANT BELIEVE WE ARE ARGUING AS TO WHETHER THE PICTURES OF THE FATAL ACCIDENT SHOULD BE POSTED.

    JUST DROP IT!

REST IN PEACE GARY, YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO KNEW YOU WELL.

Unfortunately, I believe we've all seen enough pics of wrecked cars...I understand that perhaps your motivation is that by showing them, it will give everyone a reality check and encourage safer driving. However, there are plenty of pics we can see on the 'net where the driver (thankfully) walked away from the accident that are motivation enough to be more careful. Although your intentions might be good, for the sake of Gary's friends and family during this difficult time, please leave this one alone...

Every time I read about one of these tragic crashes with a well liked driver I think of the sometimes foolish driving I have done. As recently as last year I have taken chances that could have just as easily turned out to be tragic for my family. I think threads like this one are helping to keep me from doing some risky driving in the future. I am not saying that Gary was driving too fsat or anything like that. I am just saying that I can relate to the possibility of my (sometimes) poor judgement may get me in trouble one day.

I will not weigh in on whether or not pictures of this particular crash are appropriate to post on here now or at a future date. I'm only posting at all because it's already been brought up.

I will say that the extremely graphic pictures on the lambo section of the flipped and burned Murcielago with the model and race driver inside were the best reasons to drive safely (and install onboard fire suppression) that I have ever seen in my life, hands down. These pictures will affect my driving for the rest of my life, in a positive way.

but we all have a benefit of doubt that their children/ family/friends didnt see this pics. In this case I guess the best way to give him the respect he deserves is by not posting, because theres no doubt they will be viewed by his family. dont need their last memories to be graphic pictures of....

to all who knew him sorry for changing topic (RIP)
