I had a great trip this week visiting Austin. First off, everyone was so dawg'on nice (Ya'all gotta hate Kalifornian's)! It was all 'Yes Sir, Yes Ma'am, etc. I REALLY liked that, because that is how I was raised.

With my neice, we ate at The County Line, PF Chang's and Ruths Chris Steak House for our dinners. The BBQ we ate was great at the CL. RC was OK and PFC's was awesome as always.

I liked that there are plenty of trees in the area. After two days of driving, I got the hang of how the roads are and being use to heavy traffic, it was a piece of cake. I was on a 45 MHP road in my rental car and a cop pulled along side of me gestering to slow down (I was doing 55+). I hppe all the cops will be that nice!

I looked at three homes in Steiner Ranch that were cool. I settled to make an offer on a home in Round Rock that is beyond cool! I visited the high school in Round Rock (Tigers) and was escorted by a VP aid. The school does not screw around with the kids like Kalifornia. They REALLY promote education and not only hold the kids to learning, but the teachers also to make sure the kids learn.

I went to the Arborium (SP???) near PF Chang's and was VERY impressed with all of the higher-end shopping that was available. It also seemed that there was a Home Depot every three miles, so I'll never have an excuse not to get things for around the house.

In short, I liked Austin, the people and the food. I like the fact that things seem more family friendly. Maybe all the church's have something to do with that! Nice town, great visit!

    Good to hear Peter!

However, when you do get here, for a little longer or permanent stay, I'll have to recommend or take you to a few of the local places. You still need to experience the various kinds of BBQ, breakfast tacos, and the Texas Chili Parlour.

I DID in fact try a Bfast Taco at The Taco Deli. YUMMMM! Trying out different BBQ is high on my list. I'm a sucker for moiste brisket too. I'll take you up on the offer. I told Melodie that it's customary in Texas to have a lot of 'Boy's nights out', so it looks like I'll come with a fistfull of kitchen pases!

I'm in Round Rock also, is the school you went to Westwood, I go to McNeil, which is another one of the RRISD high schools. BTW, if you don't mind me asking, where in RR did you settle to buy a house. I know a great realtor, if you need it.

We went to Stoney Point. We'll also look at Mc Neil. What can you say about McNeil? We are making an offer on a house on Bay Hill Lane.

I have lived in the North part of town all of my life and currently reside on the West side of Round Rock. It is a great place to live. There are quite a few nice roads and great scenic places that most folks have no idea even exist in this part of town.

    Welcome!

I'll be in Austin tomorrow for a golf tourney, then will be spending the night and heading to 6th Street. It's been a LONG time since I've had time to go out on the town in Austin, I'm looking forward to it!

Too bad I'm stuck at the damn round Holiday Inn. :(

Glad you liked it.....once you are in we'll get you to the inner city!

Broken Spoke on South Lamar...Continental Club on Congress......Riley's Tavern out in the boonies....

You were on the High Roller side of town! LOL!

No it's all good, a long time friend/employer is in Cedar Park and attends Hyde Park Baptist church.....if I get things unwound here in the Big City I'll probably mosey back up that way.

New Bransfels and San Marcos are a lil' slower paced for an old man like me.
Try Marriott at the Capitol next time, I built that one way back when.....although we used the round Holiday Inn when I was married, for our guests.

I like the Marriott 'cuz I can find the Ice Machine and the Hot Tub......;)

If the house deal goes through (Which it should), Melodie will cater a grand spread for a housewarming party. Admission will be to bring one bottle of beer (Rob gets in free as an olive branch I owe him for being difficult in the past)!

I'm just gonna say, Stoney Point is in a wonderful area, but Stoney Point as a school is horrible, gangs, drugs, you name it. McNeil, I don't know what you want me to say, I'll say that its a good school, teachers are great, cafeteria is painted some funny colors for some reason, its too keep kids from not eating im guessing, but seniors get to go off-campus, so I'm not complaining.

Edit: Nevermind that, there are pretty much gangs and drugs everywhere, but some places it is less.
