I was asked if I would be open to using my 355 Spider in a parade and having a young girl sitting on convertible portion. Don't get carried away, she's a nice, respectable young woman. Sorry, no Hooter girls.

It seems like this has a chance of damaging the top but was wondering if anyone has done anything like this and how it worked out. Especially if there was anything bent from someone sitting on the top.

    Thanks!

I think it's a bad idea, damage might occur over a long period of time, I would opt for a front seat position instead.

There is no hard cover over the 348 and 355 Spider top hinges/bars/top, just our leather boot.

You're looking at $25,000 in parts alone to replace the whole 355 top ( http://www.eurospares.co.uk/partsListing.asp?M=1&Mo=522&A=2&B=29227&S=&ID4=1204023) if you suffer damage and require a dealer to remedy the problem.

But, that being said, you could probably push the seats all the way forward and rig up a third, center parade seat (perhaps more like a half-sitting, half-standing sort of seat-rest)that straddles the console behind the seats and still has room for a girl's feet to slip under the backs of the driver/passenger seats.

So while you don't want anyone sitting on your leather boot cover (because that puts $25,000 in parts at risk of being bent or worse), you could probably still safely drive her around in a walking-speed parade if you put a little clever thought/effort into it.

Yeah if you put the passenger seat forward with the backrest tilted forward a bit and don't put the boot on, I think there is a little space for a seating area (The same surface the glove compartment sits on). I suppose one can even remove the glove box so she can sit in the center.

I guess it would depend how many riders are planned too.

This is a no-brainer. You simply have her ride on your shoulders, forwards or backwards, your choice.

Monteman, I recently did this in a 348 Spider for a homecoming parade. I can tell you this, sitting on top of the top was NOT an option. What we did was put a chair cushion on the seat bottom, and a cusion at the head rest. She didn't wear shoes and she stood on the cusion and rested her bum against the head rest. 3 mile ride, then two laps around the football field. It worked well.

take a 2x6, cut to span and slap some black or tan paint on it, place two cushions/large sponges on either side so it doesn't imprint the boot cover and have her mount it. Otherwise use the passenger seat.
