The value of this thread is that it was a good thorough expression of the feelings of both sides. I think the horse has been beaten to death now. but the great thing is this thread will remain for future people with this same question.

I really didn't intend to continue posting on this thread, as I'm not a troll. But Rice Boy? That's not really necessary now, is it? For what it's worth, "SkiBanker" or rewritten as "Sk I-banker" probably doesn't translate into Ricer. Also, I'm sorry that you felt compelled to explain to a stranger that your NSX was of Ferrari supercar ilk -- If I'm asked, I just say it's an Acura and go on my merry way.

In fact, I had absolutely no intention of posting here at all - until I read the absurdly pretentious comment of "driving and then a FERRARI [348] pulls up [inciting rampant jealousy on my part]" Perhaps I'm the fool for *responding* to such assinine rhetoric...perhaps not.

I do like F-cars, almost all of them. I think a 328 would be fun as a classic little weekend retro car. 355s are gorgeous. 430s are gorgeous and seriously perform. Enzos are my alltime favorite. However, I don't have the time to deal with any of them to be frank. All nice cars have their poseurs (esp where I live), which can be a turnoff, but no offense is intended to true enthusiasts of any make or model. No harm no foul. :)

Anyway, so that I may attempt to add a little value to this aging thread, reading some of the other 355/348 threads -- I'm VERY surprised at what seems to be consensus that 348 is less problematic than 355. If that's the case, us NSXers need to refresh our sportscar history. We (and the 90's auto press) always said that the NSX is what caused Ferrari to get on its horse and build a reliable sportscar - resulting in the 355. Are the 355 problems just taking 8+ years to surface, or are we just really behind the times?

To the Palm Beach guy: Not surprised you actually see NSXs occasionally... better taste outside Dade Co. :)

Saw a guy driving an NSX in the rain yesterday. I must say I was a bit envious.... can't seem to bear the thought of driving my 348 in bad weather. I'd personally like to have one of each-

I registered just to respond to this!

I have driven 300 miles in the rain in my NSX to get to California Speedway. There were two wheels with sticky rubber in the passenger seat, one behind the seat and one in the trunk.

I then drove the car at 155+ MPH in the rain on the Roval at California Speedway. Every shift was at or near redline. I did this for two days, then packed up and drove 300 miles home... it finally stopped raining half way home.

The car had zero problems. This process has been repeated many times. The car has been absolutely and perfectly reliable. This is the beauty of the NSX.

Just to clarify, Bushwhacker was kidding about the Pinto...

That is the beauty of the NSX. For a 7-day-per-week car, you want something that won't miss a beat. For weekends only, I want something naughty and gorgeous.

And a Ferrari in which to pick her up.

Well, I figure we got at least 2 days till the next one.

    Get the NSX.

I had a similar thought process to go through over a year ago. My car preferences run a little more towards GTs, so I was looking at a 550, which is the car I'd take if there were no other considerations other than "I want this."

Those who say NSXs are like other Hondas are idiotic. I have driven every Honda model in existence at one point or another. The thing that struck me the first time I drove the NSX which I bought from Foreign Cars Italia in NC was how *little* it sounded like a Honda. I expected a sewing machine tech kind of sound and it has a racecar note and a growl.

As far as curb appeal, I get hollered at and take women home on account of this car. People in the sticks say "hey look a Ferrari," I had a guy ask me if it was a Lamborghini...most people cannot tell the difference. The car looks exotic, so it is.

The reason I got the NSX was two-fold. The first was because I wanted something different from friends. That meant no Porsches. Secondly, I wanted a legitimate exotic car, something that was high performance, fairly rare, a niche product. But, Ferraris are notorious for high operating costs. And, one thing I like is cars that run. Nothing frustrates me more than not being able to use what I own.

I have discovered that the NSX is *not* a cheap car to operate. It is cheap relative to a Ferrari, but not compared to other cars that one is likely to own. I took it in for a new windshield and it was in the shop for 2 weeks waiting for the right part. One time, the shop manager called me to tell me I needed to drop $1000 for some new gaskets. Things like that crop up. My first NSX was totalled by a friend, and my 2nd was backed into by some ********* in a truck the 3rd night I owned it. The taillamp that he busted cost me $500. Everything in this car is pricey and NO, your regular Honda mechanic will not go near this thing, nor should you let him.

The parts ARE NOT cheap and little is parts-shared on this vehicle...or more accurately, the stuff likely to break or need replacing isn't liftable from a 'Teg or a Civic.

The reason I went for the NSX now was because it is a FAR better first exotic for someone looking to get their feet wet in the exotic car ownership thing than is a Ferrari. The 348 is not a car I'd consider, only perhaps a 355. As for daily drivability, frankly the NSX gets on my nerves and I don't drive it much. The car is fast as hell, handles ridiculously, draws looks, and even gets me out of a ticket when I come up on an umarked cruiser doing 110mph. However, it's loud, stiff, ingress/egress is difficult, and it's not particularly comfortable. I wouldn't consider driving this car daily and I don't. It sits in the garage almost all the time and isn't rain-driven.

Really, cars like this are good when it's warm and you can take the top off. I realize that the speed and the engine note and just being able to rip through gears with the wind blowing is probably 90% of the "experience" that everyone is about when discussing these cars. Honestly, I'd be better-suited with an Aston, something that has the speed but is also comfortable, if I'm looking for a car of some "practicality."

Get the NSX now, ensure you can handle the issues that will come with a car like this, which include constantly worrying about whether it's going to get scratched, backed into, or otherwise damaged by negligent morons, how much you're going to drop on tires, routine maintenance, parts, how much the driving you're doing is depreciating it, etc. If you can deal with the NSX, which is *going* to end up suddenly in the shop for a couple weeks just like any high-end car, then you can step up to the larger commitment entailed in owning a Ferrari.

If this is the *last* car you're ever going to buy, then go with what your heart says. If it isn't, test the water before jumping in headfirst.

From time to time, I come in here see what i really going on. I can't imagine grown proffessional men arguing about this. My c*ck is bigger than yours or yours bigger than mine. Who gives flying f*uck about it? The world is full of different choices and preferences. Make your decision on your liking and enjoy it. With that being said, if everyone drives the same car.......the world would be boring. Now stop this madness and grow up!!! If you people are a real car enthusiast, you wouldn't be argueing about this. Like I said before a few pages back....THIS THREAD IS STUPID, STUPID, AND STUPID.

STOP. Go back, read what the "NSX insurgents" have written.

Pretty much across the board, we:

    1. Have NOT denigrated your 348. Is an NSX, any NSX, better performance-wise? Absolutely. But the classy NSX drivers aren't *here* to bash on your 348 or anything else. Take a deep breath, read what we've written, and you'll find that it is not unfair. Likewise, many of YOUR Ferrari-owner posters (as current or former NSX owners) have written very good and objective advice. I said myself that the similarly priced 328 would be kind of fun to bum around in on the weekends - a classic!

    2. HAVE belittled some of your cheeseball owner/members. Maybe the Thought Leader himself, Bullpen, summed it up best when he said, in response to, 'what is an NSX?'

    Bullpen: "No SeX"

And to that, I say: You're absolutely positively right, my friend. My car is not a necessary tool in my getting laid. Likewise, spending countless hours on a Ferrari chat board, to bang out 3000+ posts, isn't getting you laid either.

You guys are as retail as it gets.

Relax/towel off. We've had dozens of "what car gets you laid" threads here and they're all tongue in cheek. There's a thread about 430s vs Chevettes right now and I'm sure someone is pissed off about that.

You need some FChat Teflon shower soap, an FChat mug and a "Boxsters are for Chicks" t-shirt from the store.

    ;)

EDIT: And my g/f said when I get 4000 posts I'm getting a special celebration gift.

Ferrari took notice of the NSX and it made them re-think their next car the 355. It's the most refined exotic out there.

It's just not a Ferrari though. It doesnt put that ear to ear grin on your face, you don't set there listening to the car at idle and turn down the radio to hear the car go through the gears the way you do in a ferrari. Something about the ferrarri draws you in and grabs hold of you and never lets you go.

Having said that if your gonna finance $45k-$55k car with only $20k down then you could be making payments on a car that your gonna have 4 and 5 thousand dollar repair bills on while your still making payments. That would scare the crap outta me.

Either get the NSX or save more money and wait to get the 348.

It doesn't put that ear to ear grin on your face? Strangely enough, it does. When I was coming down the NJTP in my 2nd one at 130 with the roof off, it was ear to ear. But, there are plenty of cars that do, even freaking Miatas. I mean, we are talking about a 348 here, not a good Ferrari. The 348 just wasn't that good of a car as far as Ferraris go.

The NSX is the FAR better car for an "introduction to what it means to own an exotic."

Seriously, I think people buy Ferraris so they can brag about how it broke down in rush hour traffic because the electrical system couldn't stand a fault in the temperature gauge. Like rich guy bragging about trophy wife buying another fur coat today.

Don't expect other people to share your idol worship, ok?

As if you know dude!!!!!! Have you owned both? Have you driven both? Somehow I doubt it! Maybe ignorance is bliss? Read all the posts and maybe you'll learn something about Ferrari's (348's) and NSX's. What's with guys like you? do you just join Fchat just to make ignorant comments and bash Ferrari enthusiasts? Your total post count is (2) and there isn't any personal profile filled out ( as if we would believe it anyway), a regular Ferrari expert and judge of character you are....for either car.
I've owned and driven the hell out of both cars and both are great, amazing cars for different reasons (of which you know nothing about obviously.) Don't believe all the cliché's you hear until you've experienced them yourself....it's just rhetoric!
To each his own, you will find as the years go by that your tastes in cars, women, food and life will change and that what's right for you is not right for the other guy.......there are no absolutes! So, be content within your own skin and leave everyone else to their opinions and the way they want to live their lives........fair enough?
The attributes of both cars have been turned inside out in this thread so read it, learn, and then go back to whatever midnight chat room you abide in. Get over it !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey! what's that ? Your mom is calling you, your Mac and Cheese is ready downstairs, better put the PS2 on pause and get down there before you get into trouble.
