Calm down. How much time did MS lose while coasting around the track with the blown tire? Factor that in and the fact Button had all race to move to 3rd, When did MS's tire blow? Yes he lost 10 laps of "advancement" to Button.

Did you even watch the race or just skim F1.com for the results?

I have to say some of the passes MS put on were really thrilling to watch. Even with the fastest car and best tires he really was flying. Had he not had the problems and started from Pole he probably would have lapped up to 4th place. He did an incredible race.

TWK63 I am usually with you, but MS's race was much more thrilling than JBs.

 

well, i understand your point here. of cos, i've seen the Senna's 1st lap many many times on video. and of course, ur right, there are many many laps and drives that were better than Schumacher's sunday drive.

but, IMO, what most people on the board here are saying that, thats Schumacher's greatest drive, not F1 greatest drive. i mean, what they are pointing out makes some sense.

good car or not, when he had that fuel pressure problem, and that tyre failure, u need a lot of motivation to drive like he did. i also realise that button's drive was amazing, yes credit to him. but button, OTOH, had no problems with his car on raceday, unlike Schumi.

bottom line is, personally, that was Schumacher's greatest drive after a long long time. and for someone his age, last race, racing against young guns 10 yrs his junior, that was one heck of a performance.

 

Brian many valid points, in my opinion MS had two drives that will ever stand out IMHO.

First his race in Spain in 96 when he destroyed the field in the very poor handling F310.

Second his race at the Belgian GP 1995 when he came from behind and beat poor Alesi in the Ferrari. I am not 100% certain it was SPA, but I remember him catching and beating Alesi a few laps before the end.

Thanx Tony. yes, i remember that rainy victory MS had in Spain.

and the one where he overtook Jean Alesi was indeed Spa. Alesi was on wets or inters, i'm not too sure, but one thing i'm sure is, MS was on slicks!

 

The race where he caught Alesi was the Euro GP of 1995 at the Nurburgring. Spa 1995 was a great race too however. He started 15th or 17th. Both he and Hill had no luck in qualifying. It didn´t took them that long to work their way up in the field on a damp Spa-track. Eventually, Schumacher won with about a 20s lead on Hill.

Of course, Spain 1996 takes the cake. That day, Schumacher´s performance was out of this world.

It was the European GP that year. Great race. Damon Hill spun off with something like 10 laps remaining so the pressure was off Michael to score maximum points. Rather than take a safe 2nd place he nailed Alesi with 2 laps to go! He will be missed...

 

Hill even applauded Schumacher when the latter was on his victorylap.

You understand the point I was making but a few cement-heads here apparently don't. I was in no way criticizing Schumacher's performance, I have repeatedly said his drive was spectacular.

What I can't understand is how these idiots fail to comprehend that complimenting Button's performance has no bearing on Schumacher's drive. Apparently a few Schumacher Fellatio-aspirers here will not tolerate any discussion of another driver's performance here. Somehow complimenting anyone's drive other than MS is considered heresy in some quarters around here.

With any luck, these morons will evaporate now that Schumi is retired and we can go back to some informed debate

 

TWH63....We all have differing opinions of this forum, and it goes without saying that no opinion needs to be respected. However, what all of us must do is respect everyones right to have differing opinions. I think you need to learn this. Your inuendos and name calling on this forum needs to stop. You ought to be directing that comment to a few other people on this thread, not just me. My comments have been SOLELY AND ENTIRELY in response to provocative and snide comments about my opinion. I am not the offender in this matter, I have been responding to people who refuse to accept my right to have an opinion that differs from their own and have been intentionally trying to provoke a response from me so they can run to the moderators.

I have done nothing wrong on this thread except, in the eyes of some, failing to pay proper fealty to Schumacher. If you want to talk about respecting someone's right to have a differing opinion, then you ought to be posting in my defense.

Incidentally I happen to often agree with you on many statements and realize it isn't easy to argue with people wearing pink glasses. But then again this is Ferrarichat, so a bias has to be expected.

So please cool your language. I would hate to send you to the sinbin because of foul language for an argument I'd personally make myself.

OK, Now you've finally succeeded in offending me.

Not of it is meant to express that both Schumacher and Button had great performances, or that their performance was in any way comparable. Last sunday, Schumacher/Ferrari were far above the league in which Button/Honda were operating. Yes, Button/Honda did very well. Better than expected even. But were still nowhere close on Schumacher/Ferrari, performance wise.

I have no problem complimenting Button. I like the guy and I feel he is underrated as a driver. I do have a problem with the statement Button did equally well as Schumacher, or was even close to Schumacher's performance, since the fact simply show something else.

Well, any useful input to informed debate won't be coming from someone who feels the apparent urge to swear and curse in every other sentence. Clean up your act. You've been warned enough as it is.

and I again advise you to start seeing the races from 2007 on. Not simply turning the TV on, but actually pay attention to what is happening.
