    Hi all,

As posted earlier my 348 was exhibiting a strangle idle misfire. It's at the shop now and they told me that they are sure it's electrical as they've gone over it mechanically and found no issues.

For reference it was only missing slightly at idle - a rough idle, when revved up the car is fine. They've come back and told me that when they disconnect the MAF's the idle is fine, no problem at all. They are trying an ECU reset at the moment.

    What do you think? MAF's, O2 sensor/s.. etc ?

    Cheers,
    Neil

I had exactly the same problem when I first got my car this past May. The car had been driven 35 miles over the last year and 350 miles over the last four. Idle was the only thing affected, ran fine at higher rpm but it did leave a sooty rear bumper cover.

Corrosion at the MAF male plug pins caused my problem. I fixed mine with Stabilant 22. After the application of the contact cleaner, I've not had a problem in several thousand daily driven miles. HTH

I think a proper shop would put your car on the sd2 testor or an o-scope to isolate the problem and work backward from there. It sounds like they are guessing on your nickel.

It's a pretty reputable shop, some of you would have heard of it even though I'm in the UK. Not worried about that but get your point FBB.

Apparently they've been over the connections. Anyway will report back later on.

I'll add mine gets driven about once a week and I checked the connectors not too long ago, they were mint looking. Hmm..

Yeah, you see lets say the sd2 says injector 8 misfiring or you see a misfire on an o-scope on 8. Then you can isolate that circuit like a) pull the injector and ensure good spray pattern b) check electronics to that injector circuit. These cars use a mix of amp and bosch connectors that look good but always have connection problems even after stabilant 22. I used to be a big fan of S-22 and was one of its first proponants here on FC and the first F-list. But over the years I have not found it to be really a substitute for ensuring a proper connection. S-22 can kind of disguise a problem because it is a contact enhancer. But these disguises can let you down when you really need them. There is no substitute for a good connection. These days I use a contact spray cleaner let completel dry and no S-22.

Along with cleaning the connections to the MAF, you might also remove it, and flush the inside of it with electrical contact cleaner.
