I agree, the Barchetta is sensual and timeless.

I love the SA just the way it is. The old Ferraris of the 50's were perfectly done for that point in history. There really is no market today for the kind of material deviations from the standard that the 410's represented in 1957 other than the multi million dollar customizations such as Jim Glickennhaus' P4/5. Ferrari does offer a very broad customization program in the Carrozeria Scaglietti program, which is really limited to aesthetic issues such as paint, leather and brightwork, but it is almost impossible to deal with them from the USA. Euro buyers have more access (or more patience) to deal with the customization program.

This thread was originally about the Superamerica and real world experiences with it, but it has evolved so here's a couple of very subjective thoughts.....The Barchetta is a work of art, no doubt, but my point is that it is basically useless for anything other than nice weekend drives on a day with perfect weather.
I also think that the usability of the SA over the Barchetta is quite clearly demonstrated in the current market for the two cars. Barchettas can be had for late model 360 Spider money but SA's are holding their own quite nicely right now around their original MSRP.
I drive my cars every chance I can get and the Barchetta was never a car I considered precisely because of it very limited usability.

I totally agree but i guess this is what makes me love the barchetta. The fact that it is a work of art with very little real world usability.
Depending on where you live, im sure thought, that a Barchetta could be use daily ( French Riviera , Florida , California ).

In the UK the original price was £198,800 plus an additional £14,455 if you wanted the GTC pack. There are at least three virtually new examples on sale at over £30k less on the ferrari.co.uk site, in case you fancy the steering wheel on the correct side ;)

over all I have 461 units in my DB, at least 7 prototypes (#7 = 122544) and Todt's is Argento Nürburgring with 123652 and when I recall it right, it was owned by him.

    Matthuas,

#123652 is correct for the Jean Todt car, I'm not sure about 122544 ? It certainly isn't a 'P' Numbered Prototipo Car from the factory. There were only 6 and all are identified, It could be a cut Berlinetta ?

That quote is being used in an incomplete form, is out of context and does not apply in your use. For the sake of this conversation I agree with 410SA's reply and comments.

Care to make a comment on 550 Barchetta vs 575 SuperAmerica with regard to reliabillity?
Phrased another way, Is it incorrect to read that the 550 with six speed is less prone to reliability issues than a 575 SA with F1 transmission?

Thanks for posting those Tim :)

Not a fan of red at all, but that black/cream one looks very noice. Did you notice if it had the part cream steering wheel? What's that about on SAs? Yuck!

Can't decide if I prefer 410SA's silver/black beast or the blue one...

    Hi there,

Can't remember if the black one had the part cream steering wheel and I don't have any pics of the interior. Sorry.

    Regards

Does the boot (trunk) open with the roof down? Anyone got a pic of the boot space?

The boot is not impacted at all by the folding roof. When the roof is open it rests on top of the boot lid and is hinged with the boot lid so that the whole thing (roof and lid) lift together.
