Interested to find out after cambelt service on 348 engines, if the cambelt is ready for redline rpm duty or should it have a few heat (run) cycles put into it first, at let say much lower driving or idling rpm's. Does anyone have any insight to this?? For example, racing tires have to be heat cycled before optimum performance, brake pads and rotors must be heat cycled also.
Just thought it would make sense to heat (run)cycle the 348 cambelt before reving it to redline rpm. If there is no such process, I'm going to cycle it because I feel the belt composition needs to be flexed in a controlled manner. Say, idle for ten minutes(until coolant fan comes on), shut down to let cool. Then drive the car with 50% max rpm for 30 minutes, let it cool down. Then I feel it would be ready for a long durable life. Any inputs to these theories ??

Sounds like a reasonable process.....but if the belts are anything like a topfuel dragsters supercharger belt, then breakins need not apply :)

My only comment would be to consult with the belt manufacturers through their websites, and report back on their recommendations. Think about the abuse that test cars at car magazines get....I don't hear much of those letting go from abuse, nor rental cars. Personally, I wouldn't get too worked up over it.
