Oh yes about model cars. I was back to the Wheelock shop to collect my white countach by minichamps & they had the last 1/12 & 1/43 Enzo by Kyushu both in red & I was glad to pick them up. Somehow, I've been postponing acquiring the Tamiya version (about S$700) & I'm glad I did as the Kyushu version has a much heavier metal body (S$870-20% for member). It's sold out now but you can possibly get them by order. Now I've completed F40, 50 & this. I used car wax to polish them but the red paint came off a little but they shine :) Only the 288GTO is missing which nobody made. A client told me recently that he has two extremely rare 1/12 McLarens & Jaguar XJ220 made about 10yrs ago.

There's also a CMC Mercedes SSK which I've ordered as well. Amazing detail this has, even the toolbox opens to reveal individual tools & the spare wheel clamp flips to remove the wheels. Almost everything works like the real car! There's a 1/12 metallic red SLR asking for S$5000....

For smaller budget, there's a new line by Matchbox? Elite series that has all red 288GTO, Testa, SuperAmerica with working folding roof & a metallic blue FXX all @ S$80+ each. Above average quality.

I'm waiting for a good Pagani kit & saw a lousy China made version in a Mall in Batam recently. The Itallian factory sells scale models in solid silver, don't think I want to ask their prices.

Must be another Testa & good to hear it's being driven, I live in the East but it was living @ Sunset Way before.

You were probably heading for ECP & perhaps you can try Capristo. I've got some video clips of it. Otherwise shop in the Ads section in this site or Ebay for "stock", don't pay more than US$500 for that used as many people upgrade & dump the muffler.

Jon, my place is going to be ready by March next year hopefully. Given how long it has taken to build you would imagine it was Bukingham Palace. Unfortunately that would be a very bad assumption....

Either way, I will be having a room (I guess about the size of a very small toilet) made especially to display my model car collection which centres entirely on Ferrari's and Porsche's. I can tell you that I derive more pleasure from these models than I do from the 1:1 scale items (servicing/maintenance is also much cheaper). And unfortunately my darn garage will only take two cars so the other has to be on the road or at grandmas... great

A great F-Chatter based in the US (Mike McCormick- also happens to be an owner of a F355B and ex Porsche 993 C4S owner as well) is a great source of top level hand builts if you are interested.

Jon, you did well to get the Kyosho Enzo instead of the Tamiya... I have heard that the Kyosho is a far more accurate model when compared head to head with the Tamiya.

Congrats on you new baby. 355s are a great car- wish there were more around for us to get our hands on! I was actually briefly looking at your 355 but couldnt part with the 348 in the end. To quench my desire for an open top, am now tracking down a 911 speedster....

Bro bro, will there be change of guards in the morning? Ok at least change of cars :)

Yes, absolutely agree with the maintenance on scale models but due to the humidity, my F40 paint has wrinkled to my horror. Did you install some lights in your cabinets? Get those ultra thin flourescent tubes & perhaps put on a timer, the heat might dry up the cabinets unless you want constant air-con. One of my client has a room built for his beloved camera collection & it had humidity control which is probably cheaper than buying those electric boxes & drying agent. Did you see that 917 chair? It'll compliment your room :)

Actually, I came across the Kyosho Enzos by chance & didn't know they make them too. Much better than the Tamiya edition & I paid slightly lesser. I'm far cry from you guys who go for serious 1/43 collector series. Seriously, where can we sell them & do they really profit as claimed?

Regarding that Speedster, I was thinking with S$30K you can actually rebuild the car to your specs including a bare-metal paint job, interior, gearbox & maybe bigger bore! Mine is being done in KL by a Porsche specialist & racer, the new steering rack & bushes really transform the car! I'm sure Hong will sell the black one for lesser if you're firm.

Frankly, I'd rather not be disturbed by them. I had to write a strong worded letter to S.chart & warn them that should another telemarketer call me offering this & that while representing them, I'll cancel my relationship with them. Those "Hor sin" can be a real nuisance.

Oh in case you guys misunderstood. I can't be sure, just my assumption. If a cabinet has regular lights (heat) for the displays, it might dry the air so there won't be too much moisture causing fungi growth. LEDs are relatively cold, lasts longer & quite popular now & I believe they don't produce UV which damages paints & prints. The better ones are Fibre optics but due to the price, usually used in museums & hi-end boutiques. The draw-back is the source of light usually has a PC type cooling fan which can be noisey in a small enclosed room.

Congrats, rara355, and a warm welcome to the 'family'! Looks like we could be the only 2 F355 Spiders left in town, but I'm probably wrong.

Got to meet some of the guys in this forum last week and they're really cool. Really looking forward to the next get-together and to check out your car. Saw the pics of your car on the Autoinc website and they looked great. I would have bought it if I hadn't bought my car 1-1/2 months earlier, as red is my preferred colour. Anyway, have grown to love yellow as well.

Hope you'll enjoy the car as much as I'm doing so right now!

Jon, I should talk to you about this. In terms of lighting, I definitely dont want heat for the paint, and I can assure you that moisture should not affect the paint of the model cars. I have models which have been with me more than 10 years in Singapore humidity with no problem. The only issue has ever been mild mold growing on rubber tires which has been easily wiped off.

Would be very interested to learn from you more about these fibre optic led lights. Wonder if they are the same thing that I will be putting in the darn water feature. Does it generate enough light to see the models??
