Here is some info and some Pics for ya ......enjoy!!!

Having been among the first tuners to begin modifying premium European cars, Willy Koenig's firm already had a great deal of experience with Ferrari's by the time the Testarossa was launched in 1984. With a good number of extravagantly engineered 308's and BB's under their belt, it was only natural the German firm turned their attention to Ferrari's latest creation. Customers were able to pick and choose from the extensive list of enhancements on offer, these including everything from a Koenig steering wheel to a Twin Turbo motor developing in excess of 1000bhp.

The standard Twin Turbo motor produced just 700bhp by comparison, Ferrari's stock 5-litre unit being equipped with two KKK turbochargers, re-mapped Bosch Motronic, special air-flow meters and new head gaskets. There were also new pistons, intercoolers and turbo manifolds, compression being reduced in the process. With a free-flow exhaust system, these engines were capable of powering the Testarossa from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, 0-125 in 10.9 and reputedly onto a terminal velocity of 335kmh. An even more expensive option was the Evolution motor with an incredible 1000bhp. A high-end version of the Twin Turbo, Evolution motors got completely new Motronic, new turbochargers and bigger intercoolers. The gear wheels, clutch shafts and gear shafts were reinforced, a modified oil-pump and bigger oil cooler also being installed. An extra 300bhp shaved half a second off the 0-60 time and just over a second when sprinting to 125mph, top speed rising to a reputed 370kmh. If a new engine wasn't on your shopping list though, a one-piece Koenig air filter would provide a stock Testarossa with 5% more power, a re-chipped Motronic an additional 30bhp and a complete Koenig exhaust system 25bhp.

High performance twin plate clutch's were also available. Set up modifications revolved around increasing track, firming up the suspension and enhancing the brakes, custom wheels having been another way to blow some cash. By using two alloy spacers and the standard wheel bolts, track could be widened by 10mm, but with spacers, liners and screws for fixed mounting at the axles, anything up to 80mm wider was possible. Koenig springs dropped ride height between 20 and 30mm, the suspension package including adjustable aluminium shock absorbers.

Adjustable anti-roll bars were also available along with a racing brake pack that included 355mm grooved or drilled front discs, new four pot calipers and competition pads. A variety of alternative wheel styles and sizes could be specified, three-piece items between 17 and 19-inches having been the norm, colour coding being optional. Two alternative body styles were available, the Koenig Competition and Convertible having bucked the trend of most high line eighties conversions that wore horrendous bodykits. If anything, the Koenig Testarossa was more restrained than Pininfarina's original design thanks to the absence of those dramatic side strakes. New body parts could be specified in either carbon-kevlar or glassfibre, the customer being able to mix and match to their hearts content. Koenig offered a new front spoiler, front and rear fender extensions and side skirts. There was also an engine cover with Plexiglas screen, F40-style wing and Plexiglas headlight covers. The Convertible featured a reinforced chassis, canvas soft top and re-profiled rear deck. A variety of alternative front spoilers, roof spoilers and rear wings were also available individually, later cars getting wraparound front indicators

Inside, customers could go with anything from a Koenig steering wheel right up to a totally redesigned interior with new seats, dash, door trim and instruments. Unfortunately though, some of the more extravagant requests for bespoke interiors were from people with considerably more money than sense, the black and yellow 'Mike Tyson Special' pictured below having been a case in point. Nevertheless, anything was available if you had deep enough pockets, many buyers having their cars equipped with racing seats, TV's, telephones and expensive Hi-Fi's.

I loved them when they come out, the only thing I didn't like was the back lights, they could have changed them for round so it was similar to the F40

We have a customer with a koenig 512bbi. For the time period it was built im sure it was way ahead of its time. 20 years later we had to redo the whole system to eliminate heat issues and heavy duty lag. The intercooler location is very poor as well, heat soak is a common issue. We are building new manifolds, tial wastegates, garret gt turbos, and wiring the complete engine with a motec M880.
