This is one of my fovorite videos. I have the audio from 1:00-1:15 as my ringtone on my phone. It makes me smile everytime someone calls me
You should watch "Lap of the Gods" on DVD, thats inapropriate!!! lots of crazy '70s style F1 driving.
I don't think so... The blow off valve doesn't release pressure into the exhaust, and is never ignited! The backfiring could be the excess turbo-air pressure remaining in the cylinder head and exhaust manifolds, igniting due to the tremendous heat.
I remember this old video on french TV : the track was wet and the F40 LM was set with slick tires. This is why the pilot couldn't go faster...
The pilot, ("le pilote" in Francais!) was Jacques Lafitte, he was a pretty good driver in the 70 and 80's with Ligier. There are more clips of him in F1 on the DVD I mentioned earlier.
BTW, Jacques Laffite did span round with every supercar (Ferrari, Bugatti...) he drove for this french broadcast (Turbo), except the F40 LM !!
He never said anything about "igniting", the sound he was most likely refering to is the BOV. He was talking about a sound, not something he was able to see coming from the exhaust as far as I thought....
i just watched a video on you tube dealin with the greatest supercars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwCB9gev1vs and after about 6 min he's driving an f40 and says the noice is from the car dumping unburned fuel into the exaust for fun. although im not sure how this happens but maybe thats why it makes the noice and sometimes the flames shoot out?? i really dont know. any thoughts?
He mentioned pop/backfiring... Are you tryin to say that "popping" and "backfiring" has nothing to do with igniting???? backFIRE = FIRE = IGNITE
I'm not gonna argue with you....although he was refering to a SOUND not something he saw as far as I thought. Either way, it could be a few things on a race car.
