I'm looking for new daily driver and thinking about an E55. There is a nice 2003 with 25k miles on my local Audi lot - asking $50K. Anyone have a comment on the year or the price? I have heard MB went through some quality control issues in the past few years but do not know if it affected the E55. Thanks for your input. George

Your E55 is mighty nice. Love the interior - much more interesting than black. Is the 2001 a W210 or W211? I'm not quite up to speed on the E55 evolution. Thanks, george

Thanks guys.....the interior is what made me buy that car. All the other E55's have the "sportier" black seats & wood. The designo wood is wild, it has so much more color than even the S430 wood in my mom's car. Yes it was an option on CLK AMG's as well but it is very very rare for either car. The 2001 is a W210 5.5l V8 with 349hp and 391 tq. 0-60 in 4.8.
Try an e39 M5 before you make a final decision...the M5 is much sportier sedan yet is still a great daily driver...I drove my 2000 e39 M5 for 6 years and 117k miles as my daily driver in the Atlanta area...I liked it so much I replaced it with a 2006 e60 M5 that I have already driven 14k miles since April 2006...

I have a 2006 E55 and I love it... I have had a couple small computer issues such seatbelt 'ding' going off even when no one is in passnger seat but so far..in 4 months..I love it. Everyone who has driven it says its the best daily driver possible. Feels far faster than my 355 and just as fast as my viper. Unfortunately I dont have that super swank interior L8braker does! And Im not being facetious...I LOVE that interior. As for pricing...I would cough up the extra $10k to get the newer model which I believe came out in 2004 ? You can get one pretty easily for low $60's now that the E65 is out. I got $ 20,000 off MSRP on mine because I waited for the E65 to hit. J
IMHO, the M5 interior looks better...I had the "full leather" package with burl wood in my e39 M5 and the full leather with aluminum trim in my current e60 M5...both have the anthracite alcantara headliner as well as Nav, bluetoth, heated and ventilated seats...the works...and the BEST THING is that had manual transmissions rather than slushboxes like in the MB...a 6 speed stick with foot clutch in the e39 and SMG in the e60...I do not think I could stand a daily driver that I had to drive 5 days per week with a slush box...YUK YUK YUK!... friends do not let friends drive cars with automatics...
I just delivered a 2003 E55 to a client.........we performed the STAGE 3 RENNTECH conversion to the car (ECU, pulley, headers)......which took it from 469 HP to 544 HP for $10K CAD........and man can you notice it......wooohoooo !!!! It is a must do on any of the AMG supercharged engines. Once you see how small the OEM exhaust manifolds are next to the RENNTECH headers you'll understand why.........

I love the e55. My cousin has an 2004 and put in a kleemann stage 2 kit and it is 600 hp! When They dyno'd it it was peeling out on the dyno! It is a solid, realible, fast car. Its a blast when me and him go on the highway.

I have a client with a beautiful 2001 E55 for sale. They're only selling it because the wife wants an SLK55. I have serviced all of their Mercs for the past few years and they baby the E55.
