    If you use filtered water, which he probably did, I don't think you get waterspots, do you?

    Also, how would sunlight cause scratches?

    It doesn't, but if you rush through the rinsing and drying process you might drag a towel over dirt and voila, swirls and hairlines.

    Filtered water helps, but you'll still get waterspots (though not as bad). Waterspots can cause scratches during drying.

    Honestly, when you are doing a full clay/polish/wax job like he was, you dont have to worry about that stuff, because you'll polish and clay it off anyways. Also, the right detailer can do just as good a job for about $300. He makes it look more involving and better quality than it really is, using the depth guages (a good thing to use though, but lots of money to buy), and high dollar products.

    If people want to pay that much money to have thier cars washed though, I say good for them and great for him.

    Plenty of detailers use paint depth gauges... you just have to look for the best. I've been planning on going to see these guys for a while - they are very active on many car forums. True enthusiasts.

    I never said it was a bad thing. It can only do good, but a lot of experienced detailers and judge paint depth without a guage and know when to stop taking clear off.
