Whats the largest size speakers inc depth that can be fitted into the original openings in the doors and what size has anyone fitted after altering them? Also where is the best place to put an amp?

    Thanks

    Hi,
Maybe this helps a little bit?
Best way IMO is to make a extra "box" just behind the seats, you can put 2 good extra speakers in it,and also hide an amplifier in it....
With the right carpet it looks standard...
No room for hiding an amplifier anywhere else, but if it's a real small one,you could find some place near to the brake booster,UNDER the plastic protection...also there is a small place in the rear trunk in the corners...forget about "under the seats"...

    Forgot to mention:
There is even a place for a video behind the passanger seat, but mine is a GTB...
With all those filters and voltage meters in the front trunk, you just have enough space to fit a 308 GT4 space saver in it....But never let your battery go flat....
PS in mine, there is a subwoofer UNDER the dash, behind the radio...I guess you could perhaps hide your amp inhere?

For the door speaker, you can use ultra-thin 6" rounds. I think they have to be less than 2-1/2" deep. I used JL Audio speakers.

Talk to any reputable stereo installer and they can find what you want. I did it without having to use the external grills. It's all behind the carpeting on the door.

For the subwoofer, I had custom boxes on each cover of the rear deck (see photo).

The 6-channel amp is in the rear storage area behind the engine. It's the best place for it.

Someone posted a detailed thread a while ago on their installation. I think they had a 10" sub in the passenger footwell area (where the footrest/plate is). There may be just enough room there for a small sealed fibreglass enclosure. As for splits/components i have 5 3/4 and will soon replace them with 6 1/2 (custom door plate).

I installed an 8" woofer in my passenger footwell plate. That's the largest speaker which could be accomodated. The rear boot holds a 2x50w amp for the doors and 2x50w paralleled for the floor speaker. Also in the boot is a 10 disk changer. And, whoa, I put a spare tire in the spare tire compartment.

You can put almost any "quality" speaker in the door. The most you should have to do is trim the opening a bit to fit a 6 or 6.5, if you find a speaker that is too deep for the door, then it is most likely a POS. The other thing you need to do is put Dynamat or something similar in the door to help the speaker perform. It adds some weight, but if you are so worried about the stereo, then I am guessing that the cars performance isn't your top priority. As for a sub, the passanger foor well is the only place you can put one. Don't try to make an enclosure for it, that is a waste of time and effort. Amps will fit the best in the "trunk" behind the engine. Take out the passenger side plastic wheel well and drill the rivits that hold the trim behind the passanger seat to run wires.

You have to watch what depth you put in the door. A 6" is the best and like I said earlier, the thinner the better. There are a couple of manufacturers that build ulta-thin 6" rounds that will work great.

As far as the sub, I disagree that the passenger footwell is the only place for it. Many people put them in the back, just like mine. With the engine noise and having the roof off, the sub is right by your ear so it's the best location IMO.
