add some juice to my boxster. silly question im sure to alot of you, but here is the logic and i just wanted a few outside opinions on it. Im looking at an 04 gallardo silver 6 speed manual. love the car, and want the car. I just dont know if it's exactly the "smartest" thing to do because im moving into the city (manhattan) but that doesnt bother me. The biggest problem I have is only the fact that the insurance is ~17,000 a year for me. Yes, you read it correct. So the insurance will be adding about 1500 a month to the car. Granted, I want the car, but I dont know if I would like the car THAT much. It's not the cost of the car/payment that bothers me. I will be keeping it in the city, and probably not driving all too much, but enough. The flipside to this is that I keep my boxster and have it tuned by 9ff bringing me to about 350hp which is pretty hefty for that car. Basically, I would be using the downpayment for the gallardo to hook up the porsche, and my payments wont change and I'll have a pretty freakin quick little go kart. But it will never be a gallardo. What do you guys think
Why are your insurance rates so high? May I ask what you'd pay in insurance for your Porsche when you move to the city?
Well, Im going to keep my porsche insured on long island. The difference isnt much either way. The reason why it's so high is because I have been in 5 car accidents, and crashed my bike twice. yea...not the greatest track record for insurance companies lol. Im a high risk to say the least. But hasnt stopped me yet and won't. I just dont think its that smart. As much as I love the car, I love mine as well and would love it even more with a lot more power. At least after the bump in power for the porsche, I would have no problem keeping up with 360s and at least not too far behind gallardo's, least not nearly as much as now. I want the gallardo, but I just think that its not the smartest move to throw that much away on the insurance. I still may do it, but knowing that makes me lean a little more towards upgrading the porsche. I would be saving myself about 35-40K for the year, but like i said earlier, I still wont have a lamborghini.
You're 21 years old and have been in 5 car accidents and 2 bike crashes. The last thing you need is a more powerful car. Invest your money in driving lessons.
Well, its not like they were all my fault, sh*t happens. And I wasnt asking for opinions on my driving, I want to know what people think I should do about the car. Comments like that just waste space.
I guess, having lived up there, my first question is where are you planning on keeping the car? If you are keeping it in a garage, then you have to factor another G per month AT LEAST for parking, and if this doesn't deter you, then more power to you...go for the Gallardo. BUT if it comes down to it and you have to leave the car on the street, then I would stick with the Boxster. On the other hand, 17k per year in insurance is simply insane.
If you have to ask people on an internet forum if you should spend $17k a year on insurance for a car, you're wasting a lot more oxygen than I am wasting bandwidth.
I dont figure so much a gallardo to be a "super car". To me, a super car is an Enzo, Bughatti, Saleen S7, etc..Maybe even a Murcie.. To me, these Gallardos, 360s, f430s are just exotics.
No car is worth 17k a year for insurance. Keep the Porsche and do nothing to it, the mods won't be worth it, or buy the Gallardo and put liability insurance only on it...just don't crash it.
8k is still outrageous. I have a terrible driving record (no accidents, just speeding tickets) and my insurance is still less than half that for a murci roadster. Who do you have insurance through?
Well, it is what it is, but what about the actual cars as a comparison, what do you guys think. Yea, I crash cars, and bikes, and I'm not going to stop driving. Most of them werent my fault besides the fact. I would be more than happy to outdrive any of you. I didnt want opinions on my driving record, I wanted opinions on the cars, thats what this forum is about after all, cars, not politics and egos. I am getting another car, and I already have an order for an MV agusta f4 to oust my ducati. So as far as the cars are concerned, what do you guys think? A dealer told me to look at an aston martin vantage or db7 gt, but they dont do much for me, classy as hell, very beautiful cars, but I want a real wow kind of car, a real slutty monster if you can understand what I mean. I thought about a 355 spider, but I still hear bad things to this day about them.
scuderiafever....The comments; "...'most' of them weren't my fault(accidents)", and; "...I would be MORE than happy to outdrive ANY of you", are very revealing. I don't think your mommy or daddy spanked you enough. Do yourself a favour, develop some maturity...THEN unleash yourself on society with a powerful car...if you last long enough that is.
Without knowing your finances, this is a question that can't be answered really. How much would you be spending a year on your Gallardo? How much on the Porsche? What percentage of your income are those? Is there something more important that the money should be involved with (a condo/house, retirement fund, savings, etc..)? You don't have to necessarily answer those questions here, but analyze them yourself and you will find your answer.
With all due respect, you haven't the slightest idea of who I am to make a judgement on my character like that. It's comments like that that just waste space like so many other ones on here. So do me a favor and just save it for someone who wants to strain their eyes with your text because I certainly don't. Back to what matters. I heard that the gallardo feels very "german" and not as much of a raw car as say a 360 and I would like to know how much of a difference the car feels like. I love the way a stage 3 capristo sounds, but a gallardo with a tubi is amazing as well. I want to get a nice exotic to toy around with but I dont want to or need to go too crazy. the gallardo all said and done with parking and everything will cost me abround an extra 40k a year not including the downpayment. The porsche would keep my cost level, and I would spend the downpayment money on upgrades. Theres always a 360, but I dont know what the maintenance costs are although I hear they are great cars and reliable.
Hey Matthew, I was just pulling your leg. I have little doubt that you or anyone else feels these cars are anything less than spectacular. Also, this is just my opinion, but I wouldn't consider the Murcie a "super car", but it sure is one awesome exotic
Another thread gone down the .... Ahh, sometimes if you're not sure what to do, the best thing is just to wait (a few months). Time has a strange way of weeding things out. Have you gone to any track days and checked out the G vs the 360? If the choice is not immediately clear, there may be a reason for it.
