thanks....so back to what i said (i love how i've got so much under phil's skin that he's lost logic)....a slow driver (in this case, me) in a 355 finds that car to be much more predictable and easy to drive than the same driver (still me) in a 360ch...both without wings.

with me driving (slowly, of course) the 360 snapped very sideways at a place and speed that the 355 wouldn't have.

i hope that's clear enough for phil...the rest of you probably understood the first time.

I recall when the 355 was released, the UK car mags (CAR, EVO) raved about the handling improvement over the 348. Obligatory pics of drifting through paddock bend, etc.

Then along came the 360 and they repeated the same story, right down to the drifting pics, with a caption that went something like "now you can do this".

Its interesting that someone with lots of 355 driving experience has a different real-world experience. I'd much prefer to take PP's word over a simpering journalist who's angling for an invite to the next Fiorano test day. But its dissapointing to be reminded that car mags are not always honest with their readers. (duh!)

same with porsches..."this model finally gets rid of the tail happy problem"....but if the new one did that, then the old one didn't...ad infinitum!

the reality was, of course, that they weren't really that bad to start with.

i've read articles on cars i've owned and wondered if they'd ever actually DRIVEN the cars!

Really? That's around Formula Ford times. Faster than I thought. What sort of speed do they hit before the northern hairpin?

    360GT with F1 shift about 2s per 60 faster than 360C (all F1), and 430GT sequential another 2.5s per 60 faster than 360GT F1... 360GT sequential about 1.5 slower than 430GT seq...

Having just received the faxed copy of my CAMS licence late this afternoon I now feel like an official part of Goober's team. Thanks for the navigator opportunity!

Somehow it still seems surreal. It should be fun, the last event (an old Dutton's GP Rally) I was in a car from a total opposite universe to the 360C.

Well, it scored two out of three in that triangle, plenty of ground clearance, it was reliable, but with about the same crash protection as a bug has when it hits a windscreen......A Renault R4.

On a flex scale from 355CH to Boxer... where would you put it? :)

Actually.. I think you'd look right at home wearing a Fez in that car.

    OK, just thinking aloud here.

Scenario is this. The car is motoring along nicely, but suddenly the motor stops dead. Turns over but no start, fuel is fine, isolation switch is fine, battery terminals are tight. Where would the diagnosis start from there?

Just trying to cover any known bases in working out which plugs are likely to fall out first, or if there are any inertia switches on the car which could have tripped.

    Renault 4 or 360C? ;)

360C has fuel inertia near drivers left knee... just unplug it and leave disconnected if faulty.... new spec switch available, less sensitive...

Thing is though... if car is hot, inertia switch doesn't actually stop engine.. residual tank pressure from hot engine forces enough fuel to keep idling/spluttering about...

It'll only stop if no tank pressure.

who ever said mine was well maintained... All Is ay is that it doesn't flex any more than many similar cars, and that when fitted with slightly stiffer springs, it'll respond appropriately and correctly and reliably...

mine was bought for a stupid sum by an Arab... who then garaged it for many years without even opening the garage door to let UV light in... great storage... poor history! (The arab also lost about 200,000 POUNDS in his bargain!!)

"I" then stored it since 2000 until now... in a Ferrari showroom though... so once again... great storage, 5hite history! Mines had regular exercise and annual roadworthy tests while in storage... but it's still a bit behind on servicing right now... although, the more I drove it this weekend, the more confidence and familiarity came back... I must gas up the A/C after the import... and the fuel gauge goes to empty when it's down to half.. so that's annoying.. otherwise it's SO livable...

the old girl just purrs along.... lurrrrrve the torquey 12... no need for fuss/noise/revs/effort... I only rev it to 4000 on the road really... it's WAY more than enough too...(50km/h per 1000 rpm in 5th) I revved it out a few times for people I gave rides to though... and it whips around to 140+ mph very easily... on private roads of course...
