Date on Carnet is obviously wrong. Car is 341 of 349 and was built in 1988.

Sorry if the question has been asked before, but whats with the headlights?

In the old pics they are black, but in the new pics they are yellow. Did you paint them? did MM paint them? did the previous owner paint them?

Is it concoursically (i dont know if thats a word) to have them in yellow, was this available to be done from the factory?

    Cheers

If you look in this thread, you will see some red F50's with the colour coded red headlight surrounds. In some pics, you see the headlight surrounds painted black? :)

Many of the parts were built in 1996, most in 1997, I didn't see any 1998 built parts (many parts are date coded).. I suspect it was actually certified as 1998 build, but 1997 saw most of it?

    I see it came with a radio/tape and a spare wheel... !!

I think there are mistakes, however minor, on almost EVERY Ferrari documentation... amazing the faith and importance and monetary value placed on such frequently nonsensical documents..

wow what a fantastic topic this is , this has kept me glued to the screen for ages , its rare to see an F50 in england never mind seeing one being restored/renovated, the pictures are fantastic and show what an awesome machine this is , in july 2005 i was lucky enough to be taken for a drive in an F50 with only 5000 or 6000 miles on the clock , a rosso corsa one that was imported from germany to england , this too was fitted with a tubi style exhaust which made it sound like an F1 car , i didnt realise how loud these cars were when they are accelerating under load ,when i describe it to people how loud it is in the passenger seat they think i am joking, i couldnt hear the driver talking!!! a truly astounding car with approx 550 bhp , a memory that i definately wont forget , keep up the good work , Andy.

I believe it does, yet ill be open for correction if it doesn't. Apparently a difficult job to change the tops

Scott, in the last picture where the car was in Paris, it seems the Prancing horse symbol from the bottom lip of the car is missing..

Also neat Pics with the interior.

I will be adding pictures soon of all the accessories and documentation that "should" come with an F50. The car has a hard top (always fitted on mine), a temporary soft top and the barchetta roll hoop arrangement.

I have never changed the top; but it is a 2 man 20 minute job by all accounts. It is also extremely easy to damage the paintwork in the process....

Good pick up on the missing badge. Surprisingly, I had never noticed that before. I suspect looking after the F50 wasn't high on the list of priorities for the Saudi Prince. It was apparently left parked outside that hotel in Paris for days on end.

Where did the car go after its Saudi owner? MM. Did they neaten it up before you bought it?

The car went from the Saudi Prince in France to Maranello Motorsports in Melbourne. They did some paintwork on it; but it didn't really need anything else to satisfy most peoples standards.

Here is an example of the date coding that Phil is referring to. This is the gearbox casing:

The car left the factory in 1998 and was delivered around March in Germany. No doubt they built batches of parts that were used throughout the production run.

These are the original headlights. I bought a second set that I saw advertised in England and had them repainted yellow. Those are fitted in the car now.

The F50 came with quite a few bits and pieces when it was delivered. These get lost or retained by owners over the years and it is rare to find a car for sale that still has everything.

Picture 1- Hard top storage case

Picture 2- 3 piece luggage set INCLUDING yellow storage bags
    Picture 3- luggage bag 1
    Picture 4- luggage bag 2
    Picture 5- suit bag luggage
Picture 6- JP TODT bag for drivers shoes
    Picture 7 and 8- F50 drivers shoes
Picture 9- Certificate of Origin signed by Luca
Picture 10 and 11- Box of photos of the actual car on the production line
Picture 12- the S/N Plaque attached to the presentation box. Note S/N of car engraved

Picture 13 and 14- The Barchetta cover for open top configuration
Picture 15 and 16- Roll hoops for open top configuration
Picture 17- Temporary roof system in capote bag- stored behind seats
Picture 18 and 19- Temporary roof system unfolded
Picture 20- owners manuals. These are stored in leather pockets between the seats in cabin. I have them in a 360's leather puch for safe keeping in a safe
Pictures 21,22 and 23- The most amazing brochure for the original owner. Cover is painted carbon fibre and it was made and painted in the same workshop that did the cars.
Pictures 24,24,26 and 27- Toolkits passenger and drivers side
Picture 28- Wheel nut socket and leather pouch

you reckon it took that long to build? I'd be surprised if an F50 took more than 500 hours to build from scratch, and probably only 30 hours to build from sub assembled bits..

I remember in the UK (around 1995?) they said a Vauxhall Nova (Holden Barina) took 8 man hours to build... and some robot time of course...

yeah ok take out R&D why don't you... look, i could quote someone 2 hours to make them a functional website based on something i've already done, but then i don't get paid for the time i spent developing it. looking at the "ok boys let's make an F50" point in time i can easily see thousands of hours per car. would it be more economical to pay you a few hours to do a clutch job or to train someone from the ground-up to do it?

    interesting discussion topic though..

R&D is very different.. but consider that a concourse worthy Dino can be restored in about 1000-1200 hours including all the stripping and repairs/resto work etc...

building a new car (esp' one a simple as an F50) from parts on a shelf wouldn't take half that IMO...

But how many times can you then do this 2 hr task? If it is finite - say 400 times - you could then allocate the initial R&D equally. But if variable and unknown you cannot do this and so write off the R&D cost (tax loss!).

Agree - but do they ever take into account the amount of time to make each component (like in your 8hr Barina example?).

But back on topic - loving the photos - those driving boots are a great touch! Scott if you have any more photos (and the time:D) - keep posting!

    Thanks!!!

My car has absolutely every extra that the factory supplied. I "think" that the US cars may have been supplied with some sort of cognac/glasses presentation pack but I have never seen a picture, and the Euro cars never had it as far as I can tell.

Today I spent the day with the car doing something different. May post photos tomorrow.

Hmmmmmmmmm, at the risk of stating the obvious you DO realise that an F50 is not road legal here and the opportunities to use it (legally) are very limited.
I don't think I have done too badly bearing that in mind. In fact I dare say my car has been used as the designers intended FAR more than most owners ever would manage. Come over next private test day at the island- a 1 min 47 sec lap in a car like that lets you know that you are alive.
