Perhaps I should have been more clear.

Between the two exotic cars this guy proposed to choose from, the NSX will likely hold its value better and be easier on his pocket book in every way, while providing the same entertainment value and wow factor.

It can be daily driven without having to worry about the mileage hurting resale value. It won't need $6000-7000 engine out servicings. Or $12,000 engine rebuilds. Or $8000 transmissions. There are hundreds of them out there beyond the 100,000 mile mark without issues. Between 91-94 they made approximately the same number of NSXs as they did 348s. But yet a rock chipped windshield is a $500 problem on an NSX, instead of a $3000 problem for a 348. Any mechanic can work on an NSX without fear or special training, and it will offer the same performance and fun factor as the 348. It's just as fast (or slow by modern standards) on or off the track. It will turn just as many heads on the street for about 2/3 the price.

IMHO, of course. I love F-cars as much as the next guy. But other than the namesake, the NSX takes it on every level over the 348, except for the exhaust note. The used car market tends to agree, hence the supply/demand curve keeping the resale values of the NSX so high.

No offense intended to 348 owners...

Thats what makes Ferraris special they were never intended to be an average mans car thats cheap and reliable, you are really dreaming if you think an NSX gets the same reaction from people as a Ferrari or have never experienced the kind of reactions you get in a Ferrari, though you may think
some mistake an NSX for a Ferrari most know better and the NSX doesn't get near the same level of respect as a Ferrari

Ya know I think we're being just a little arrogant here. An NSX isn't really an everyday car. Lets be honest brothers, it's a good car, nice looking, and the quality of construction is hard to beat. It is more common than the F-cars though.

I read some one said they made the same amount of 348's as they did NSX's one year. Realize I'm probably out to lunch on this, but I thought the total production run of 348's was around 6000 Cars. Could someone in the know clue me in on this. I have also heard that, that run included 1989 - 1994. I'm probably off base, just wondering.

By the way OZ, I like your new pic. I actually live to see Kate in those movies.

Looks like I wasn't too far off, So I'm kinda wondering how many NSX's in that same amount of time. It has to be many more, at least I would think. They don't seem to be as common though as the new Z06 or Vipers. At least in my opinnion, Seems like I see one or two of those every day.

In the same time frame, there were about the same number made.

Of course, the NSX went on to be made for a full 10 years after that, so there are no doubt more of them around.

~5500 NSXs sold from 91-94 in north america. So it may be more or less than the 348, but it's close.

I think the pictures of the two yellow cars show the NSX is just as striking as the 348. Different, but no less exotic.

That's a result of successful marketing and excellent brand promotion on Ferrari's part. The average joe knows the Ferrari name, and all exotic sports cars are associated with that brand. I'd bet you that McLaren F1 owners get asked if it's a Ferrari all the time. Now THAT must be annoying.

No different than everyone calling all shiney motorcycles "harleys".

I think the rarity of seeing a 348 must be beacuse most people that actually own them don't use them for every day drivers. I honestly believe the NSX would be, and is a better every day driver. Please understand I love my f-car, and the cars in general, but in my opinnion, I dont think the quality of construction of the F-cars is really there to support it like the NSX.

Don't misunderstand me, the design of the Ferrari, the looks, the style is second to none. But the Japanese tend to hyper engineer everything. It works as much for them as it does agains them. In other words the f-car guys would lets try this to see how fast it is, not worring so much about how it holds together, as much as how much performance they get from it. In contrast the Acura engineering group would perform stress anylasis in every stud, every bolt, and would come to the conclusion it might be fast, but it will never hold up, and decide not to give t a try.

I do like the NSX design though, I'm true to the mid engine approch, and I do respect the cars. I would never sell my F-car to do it, but I might aell my 914, and try to speed one of these acuras. Mostly because of cost, it just cost so much to do any thpe of a serious speed mod to my 348, it can be a bit discouraging at times.

Are you looking for a car that satisfies you or the one looking at you? If you want to buy a Ferrari for the attention, buy an NSX. An NSX is a great car that will get you noticed and won't cost $10,000 every three years. If you want engine music and personal satisfaction- but the Ferrari.
