Damn, I really want to pre-order one except for this: "Items are shipped as they become available." What are the chances they'll have none? Im really sure they're not gonna have enough.
Sounds like the classic 'take orders, see how many we need, then order that many units from distributor/manufacturer'.
I did it this morning as soon at this thread was made and i'm canceling my order if it doesn't come before the end of November...which i'll be amazed if it does
They are closed now. No one knows if Bestbuy will honor them, as the pre-order link was open for hours. At othersites the preorders were gone in minutes. It might have just been a glitch in the system. But I hope its not, as I ordered one!
Test page. More than likley, most orders, if not all, will be cancelled. Best Buy never takes pre-orders.
Yeah, Someone just said BB is already cancelling orders. It was an error or intentional "feeler". Thats messed up!!

I have it on good authority (I always wanted to use that phrase)... I was told that no single store would have less than 8 or more than 16 units. The U.S. is only getting 400,000 or so. Divide that number among every single Game Stop, Best Buy, Toys R' Us, Wal-Mart, etc, etc, etc., and the numbers appear about right. I was told that the reason is that Sony doesn't want to distribute a million units and then find out there is a problem. Instead they will distribute the 400k or so, test the waters, and proceed from there. - Chris
Did anyone else get their funds directly taken out for the pre-order? My brother-in-law pre-ordered one and they are holding his funds. They put a hold o n the funds and they will not be available for about another 4 days. It has already been a good amount of time since the pre-order was placed. He called his bank, and all best buy would have to do is send a fax over to release their authorization. He was told that would be done, they lied to him, the bank never got a call, and they keep giving him the run-around. Its weird because you are not supposed to be charged until the item ships, and has lost money that he cannot charge because of BB's error; it should have never made the test page. Who else is pissed at best buy. Seriously, everyone needs to get together, start a petition, file some bbb claims, because $10 E-Coupons aren't cutting this screw-up.
Yep and i'm pissed. We could sue right now and win. The fact that they've charged my credit card and i don't have the item (or its not on its way to me) means that something is wrong. Legally, i should have a PS3 now
Sue for what? What are the damages? Being pissed off isn't damages. Merchants do not legally have to honor an advertised price. Unless there is some underlying fraud, then it's simply a mistake. Don't you think there are enough frivolous lawsuits in the world without suing best-buy because they cancelled your PS3 order? Are people really upset that they were mistreated, or are they upset because they thought they snuck in and got a PS3 without having to wait in line and now they are throwing tantrums?
I was under the impression that a merchant cannot charge a credit card unless the buyer has the goods or the goods are on the way to the buyer. The joke about me suing was in relation to this and as i said, was a joke...
Oh, sorry I missed the joke (I'm slow - my bad)... on the CC thing, there is no way a vendor is going to wait until after they have shipped the items or the customer has them. You'd be amazed at how many CC's decline. We get it all the time - maybe 5% of all cards decline. 60% of the declines, the people come through with a new card, the other 40% say "oh, I'll just cancel for now and order later". If you had already shipped the goods, you'd be getting screwed left and right. I was looking through our credit card rules with our merchant account provider, and we have to ship within 30 days of charging the card, UNLESS the customer is aware they are buying something that will not ship within 30 days or unless we have a good reason not to have shipped. So if you pre-ordered a PS3 and they said it was a pre-order, you'd have a hard time with any dispute whereas if you ordered an item and they charge you and just don't ship it, after 30 days (or whatever their terms are) they would be in violation. We charge cards when orders come in and sometimes ship 3-4 days later. Much of the stuff we do is custom and I got sick of making up some custom parts for a customer then their card declines and they say just to cancel it.
