    All,

I recently acquired a 2001 360 Modena with 2800+ miles. 30k service was done and the clutch was replaced due to a sticking throwout bearing. I have put 500 miles on the car since I got it and want to ask whether the following two observations are common to the model or whether I have some things for the dealership to explore:

    1. My gearbox (manual) is notchy going into 1st and 2nd gear. The other gears engage quite smoothly, but 1st and 2nd require some finesse (although I never force)

    2. My fuel gauge never registers more than 3/4 full. I know the remaining two right hand bars work becasuse they light up when I first turn the ignition key and start the car. However, even after topping up the tank, they don't stay lit.

If you can let me know whether to relax about these matters or seek a solution, I would be greatly appreciative.

I have the same problem with the fuel gauge. To me it is not enough of a distraction to go through the process of figuring that out. It is merely important that the low fuel light goes on when it is supposed to. I haven't even discussed this with anybody. If it bothers you, i would check it out.

In driving my dad's 2004 360 all the gears worked very easily and smoothly. I would guess yours might need some adjustment. It should be an absolute joy to operate! I have never driven a car with such a great gearbox / transmission feel as the 360.

Fuel gauges that never register more than 3/4 full is a known issue on many 2000/2001 360's. It is accurate at the low end which is the important bit to know.

Common fuel gauge problem with the 360's. Going from 1st to 2nd is a little rough when cold, but once the car is warmed up, no problems. If you are having problems when the car is warmed, I would suggest go check it out.

I second this. My car's fuel gauge was fixed under warranty for this problem, and the gearbox is notchy 1st to 2nd but only when cold.

Fuel guage is a well documented problem. Try this thread if you want technical details. Or do a search for the many other threads.

I have an F1 so I can't commnet on the shifting issue. My car engages slowly until it is warmed up. Then everything is nice.

Should only be when cold. Once the engine warms up, it should be smooth. Sometimes down shifting from 2nd into 1st can still take a slight push.

Hey Ray, good to see you on here. I bought some LED tail light bulbs and will follow your lead this weekend. I will let you know how it goes.

    All,

Thank you for your insight, experience, and advice. I will be glad to live with the slack fuel sending unit. And I will pay close attention to 1st and 2nd shift notchiness.

I'll have the car out for its first extended drive, next week - so far, trips have generally been on the order of 10 to 25 miles. If after 1/2 hour of driving 1st and 2nd aren't like butter, I'll speak with the dealership to have things checked out. Since I got the Power warranty and the car checked out under inspection (to get into the warranty plan), I have an expectation that everything shoudl be just right.
