Does anyone know the "step by step" to change brake pads? I live in a City in Mexico where the Ferrari dealership seems more interested in selling cars than fixing them... mechanics lack experience and rather do it my self (if it is possible obviously).

    Thanks

One word of advice...do NOT attempt to lift a 355 by the cross brace shown in that 348 brake pad replacement thread above! It WILL bend it. Some will lift by the bellhousing, or on either side ahead of the rear wheels, at the jacking point. But not on the cross brace...it is thin metal....seen many bent ones. ;)

To bleed your brakes you are going to need your ignition on. That will run the ABS pump. That's important.

You should also have better jacking points than those shown in the step-by-step thread.

Other than that, the 348 and 355 share brakes that are similar enough for the above to get you fixed and back on the road.

Are those better than the Porterfields I hear so much about??

Yes and no. Both have advantages over each other.

I use the Axxis pads, but I'm not a track driver. I've got a Spider.

The Axxis don't squeak. They don't put out much dust (the least of any pad that I've ever seen on any car). They stop faster than OEM pads.

And they are cheap. CHEAP! Less than $50 per set (a set being the two pairs required for either front or back).

But they aren't track pads. The Porterfields would almost have to be better on the track (not that I'd know firsthand, mind you).

Porterfields can squeak. They do put out more brake dust (so you'll be cleaning your wheels more often). And they cost about double the Axxis pads.

Exactly why I've used them on all my cars since 1988!!! :D I have never had them fade while using them very aggressively on the street/freeway onramps.

I have not had the oportunity to test them on the track. But they have at least two performance levels. Deluxe and Metal-Masters ;) :D

Here is a site with more info on the AXXIS pads.

I have tossed perfectly good pads from cars soon after purchase, just to install the Axxis pads. I have had very good results driving on canyon roads downhill with no signs of fading. :D

I've used the Axxis Metal Master, Deluxe Plus and Porterfield R4S, though not all on the same cars, so I cannot make a "back to back" comparison. BUT, I will say that the Porterfield R4S seems to be a better fit in performance to Ferraris, and made a noticeable improvement in initial "bite" when getting on the brakes over the stock Ferodos on my 355. I found the Deluxe Plus, I had installed on my previous 328GTS to be very similar in performance to the stock pads (not sure what brand they were). Metal Master I have used some years back and are probably slightly better performance to the Deluxe Plus. All three pads make significantly less dust than the stock pads. Porterfields are not that expensive if you shop around... typically for the 355 they are around $90 to $95 per set (axle).

Which ones? They make three; Deluxe Plus, Metal Master and Ultimate.
