Twice world champion Mika Hakkinen says he might return to Formula One some day - as a manager.

The Finn, who entered the sport's pinnacle with the guidance of countryman and 1982 world champion Keke Rosberg, told Welt that he can envisage doing a similar thing for an up-and-coming driver.

But the DTM racer cautioned: "I do not feel ready for that yet. If I do it, I would want to do it properly."

Hakkinen said being a driver-manager is a 'big responsibility' that some take on without recognising the importance of doing it right.

"If in three years you decide you have had enough, you could have ruined someone's whole career," he added.

Mika rules! He shouldnt have retired from F1 as early as he did. I've always thought he was a perfect gentleman and a great driver.

hes a nice guy but hes really strange. watch any interview with him he cant sit still and he backs away from the camera as if he were afraid of it. Kimi is sort of the same. Maybe its a Fin thing. All i know is Mika is great driver shame im too old for F1 starting at 20? Boo. Ill stick to sports car racing

Atleast in the past Finns were considered as relatively introvert people that are shy and quiet. So there might be something in your statement.

I guess I need to call Mika, and agree on a reality show, "From nobody to an F1 driver in 3 years" :D

MH probably retired at the right time when you look at McLaren's diminishing pace after he left, although he was still at his prime as a driver. Would be great to see MH back in the F1 circles.

As an aside, there was an interesting note by Martin Brundle in which he regarded MH faster than MS on a single lap, but MS had the edge over a race distance. Brundle was a teammate of both at some point

True - Mika was a great racer - his overtaking move on MS at Spa will go down as legendary. However, MB is also a well known anti-MS man, so his opinions are always to be taken in context...

Until Peugeot gives Marcus Gronholm a 4spd rallye car --- then you see a not-so-quiet Finn. ;)

I always thought it was that English was a tough transition for Finns. I sure wouldn't want to try to learn Finnish. :p

The rumors of Mika Returning to the F1 just doesn't seem to settle. Instead the news in Finland (and Autosport in GB) are saying that Mika might DRIVE for Mclaren next year !!

Supposedly Mika has been testing Mclarens driving simulator and done their medical tests, and Mclaren hasn't annouced their 2nd driver yet.

Even if I doubt that Mika will do a comeback after 6 years, it would be AWESOME. Lets see, Kimi Räikkönen (FIN) driving for Ferrari, Heikki Kovalainen (FIN) driving for Renault and Mika Häkkinen (FIN) driving for Mclaren, it sure looks and sound nice!

What do you think, is there even a remote chanche that we will see Mika driving an F1 car next year ? If not, where in the organisations would you place him?

I hate to say this, but Mika got his ass kicked in DTM this year, so he doesn't stand a chance in a F1.

He was superb in 1998, lucky in 1999 and lost it in 2000. Six years later? Hell no.

as much as i hate to say this, we all know, deep down, this isn't gonna happen. it's just normal rumours and speculations. remember, Mika is a very important person in Mclaren camp. he was most likely just testing the new simulators they have, and maybe, he got a free medical check-up too ;)

    Hakkinen in F1 ....Please yes!

But I think he will get humiliated.....those who thought Villeneuve sucked....just wait and see Mika.

He should have come back in 2005, but the Button fiasco ruined everything.

Your right that he hasn't been doing very well in DTM. The thing is though, open wheel race cars and tin top touring cars are very different beasts. Maybe Mika take better to the F1 cars because of his lengthly experience with them, as opposed to the tin tops. Also, wasn't Nigel Mansell able to make a comeback after his stint in indy and win a couple races for Williams or Mclaren? I forget wich, and I don't feel like looking it up, but I know that Nigel was about 43 when he did it. Also, he was much more rotund aswell haha.

Mika's greatest assets were that he truly wasn't intimidated by Michael and that he was at McLaren at the right time. Anyone who wins a couple of Championships is in rarified air (Yes, even Alonso), but this story isn't really that much of news. He tells an interviewer that he might be interested in managing a driver some day. Wow. I'll bet the list of things he's interested in doing is quite lengthy. Young + wealthy + retired = easily bored.

Yes, Mansell tried to make a come back at McLaren.
That was quite unexpected, since Nigel and Ron Dennis don't see eye to eye.
    Anyway, they signed a contract.
Instead of testing in winter, Nigel went sunbathing.
Just before the 1st GP, he tried the car and found that he didn't fit; his backside was too wide for the cockpit.
I think that he did one GP, but Dennis wasn't too happy about his lack of professionalism, and I suppose that Roxanne (Mansell's wife) permanently in the pit started to irritate him too. She is reputed to wear the trousers in the Mansell house.
Anyway, both sides started to argue and the contract was cancelled after the 3rd GP. Mark Blundell replaced him in the cockpit, but it was not to be a very good year for McLaren anyway.
Mansell did a few races in touring car, asking for exhorbitant starting fees, only to park the car after a few lap, often in the wall too.
One of the worst WDC we ever had.

Mansell's comeback was flawed just like Alan Jones'. Neither Mika nor Michael nor anybody else should have a comeback. Exception: The brilliant Lauda.

Having said that, I don't think Nige' was bad at all. When he got the title it was a walk in the park with the utterly dominant Williams and the proverbial monkey could have won that one. But before that there were MANY years where the title slipped through his fingers and he had no fault with it. So after all it was well deserved. Heck, he would have deserved two or three titles!

What are you guys smokin'? Didn't you watch his last season? It was a disgrace to himself how much he let himself down just droning around in the McLaren. Anybody remember Monaco? It was pathetic.

He totally lost his motivation. No reason to carry on.
