As Official Ballast for the RHS of the car to keep it flat over that crest, I can verify that all those four wheels were off the ground! All day I've had a song stuck in my head, that of Goober playing the 360C motor. The performance and poise of that car is just unreal.

Thanks to Goober for the ride in the 360. It really was something quite special!

Had another enjoyable rally this year.. and I've put some faces to names now.

Absolutely loved the corkscrew stage, although had some unwanted excitement when we had to rush forward with our extinguishers for an engine fire in another group :(

Had a nice run on the Gorge road stage... with the camera car following, so may make an appearance on TV :)

Being last on the road, we also saw some sad wrecks 'parked' at various angles.

Did the 360C ever bottom out?

One part of the road in particular I'm thinking of..
It was a special stage on the first day after lunch, it was quick right/left and then up a steep hill, the road book said keep right and there was considerable camber in the road.. with the long scrapes from earlier cars..

Another interesting section bit was a chicane on a newly tarred bit of road that was absolutely chewed up by the time we got it!

car glass at hackham west (who does all my renta car werk) he had one in stock from 2.5 years ago, and he drove into town and under the lights of his ute did a great job in 3 hours. $1800 supplied and fitted, i paid a premium cos it was after hours and that he drove 50+ km just to do it. and yep its a repo, but beggars cont be choosers, and the screen that got munted was a repo anyway.
The worst dealer in Aust said at dinner they could get one from syderney and at 7k i said thanks and i acn see why you dont keep bits in stock.

both cars need/ed new oil senders x 2 per car (giving really wierd readings after a special stage) abd the dealer had nothing. I toild the GM or DP or CC of prestige that during an event that has say 35+ ferraris that why wouldnt u have staff on call and spare parts, sure charge a premium but dont say u have nothing and all staff have gone home. VERY BAD BUSINESS.

Have dinner no later than 7pm. Aim for 6pm. Have a small meal at 9pm - yoghurt + piece of fruit is good. I also take a multivitamin.

Don't consume any caffeine after the late afternoon, say 3 or 4 pm.

Get everything you have to do done by 9-10pm, in bed at 10:30. Take a glass of water to bed. I always read in bed before going to sleep - anything not related to work / study, etc.

Get up no later than 7 the next morning. Rinse and repeat.

    Works for me. :)

    Great photo. Apexing nicely. ;)

I said you could have had our spare for Teds car for $900, and that included a cover charge to re-do the stickers we've put on it, and a drink for me to go to the shop (90 mins round trip) at 10pm if needed...

Oil senders... what oil have you put in them? If ambient is very hot, or you're SUPER careful and don't give big blips when cold, you can run Castrol Edge 10w60 and you'll never get any spikes of 0 oil p (too small to see on gauge... need datalogger)... but if you have cold ambient or are a bit KEEN with the revving for dramatic effect ( ;) ) you'll send surges through the system and the prehistoric senders will kark it....

if it's cold and/or you like to rev... use 5/40. but NOT Shell Helix Ultra... that'll give oil spikes when hot without question (on R spec tyres).

Also remember to keep the oil level 20-30mm OVER factory max mark when hot (80 deg+) and just turned engine off.. (I can't remember if I re-marked your cars or not...but I've done most)

and that's just the tip of the tip of the HUGE iceberg....

it's the main negative of being a Ferrai mechanic.... I know too much about them... I'd love some mystique back!

But it's the same for any "one make" mechanic... you get too familiar with them.

wouldn't have gotten to him until morning at best if he had someone willing to drive from melb with it... $900 premium to save 12 hours and a lot of hassle when it's needed sounds ok in the end.

yeah, you did ok... risk of breakage over long distance too... so imagine the face if it had turned up and found it cracked!

I transport it sitting on top of cars own screen... best way. Putting it in a box or something will lead to drama...

the team used to carry a huge box of 4+ screens, to be sure of getting one out ok!

    phil,
we both found in special stages that the oil temp would come on and blink at us once the engine got warm, the coolant stayed at about 95 but oil went from 86 to 210 celcius and back to 86 in about 3 seconds, which is impossible and also the motor would have smelt sh!tty and performed really sh!tty, so it was the senders, and once the stage was finished in normal cruising the gauge read between 80 and 95 and back to 80 all in about 3 seconds. So in essence its the senders units. GP lost gears in his when the pump got hot sitting in traffic, mine was fine. and his had a provision for a snorkel, so we need to get one. Plus i need a pair of wiper arms, in the dark the windscreen bloke put the arms on backwards or whatever and the spline ate out the innards.
