575 Dead Battery and Alarm Problem

    I have a 04 575 that i do not drive much. I changed the battery, after the battery died for not driving it for 4 month. Now the alarm just keep going on and on.

    Anyone has similar experience and solution? Or i just have to tow it to the dealer for repair?

    Is your alarm beeping with the car off?

    You may need to replace the batteries in the alarm module. there was an extensive thread on this in the 360 section about 6 months ago.

    Why not turn to off the battery switch to then reset the system.

    It might work.

    Why not keep a battery maintainer (not charger) on the car and avoid the problems in the future??? Better yet, drive it more often!

    Off topic, sorry, but wow... You've got a nice collection of cars. I'm from Austin and, until recently, was planning to move back there from NYC. Looks like I might end up in Houston, at this point... Plan to ship my little Ferrari back with me, and may store it in Austin for a while... Would be pleased to make your acquaintance some day.

    Both good suggestions.

    Find out first waht's causing the problem, and then the above should avoid a repeat.

    Was the Ferrari factory battery tender an option or did it come with each car?
    It seems they anticipated this issue.


    FWIW - a "battery tender" constantly monitors battery voltage and only charges when the voltage drops,
    while a "battery charger" always applies charging voltage, but overcharging can cause the electrolyte to boil off.

    This appears to be true and a very valuable avenue.

    I believe a "charger" can cook the fluid out of a battery whereas the tender will maintain the voltage when there is a drop.

    Two solutions:

    Problem 1. "I have a 575 and dont drive it much" - send the car to me in Houston and I will look after it for many years, and I will even fix the alarm problem

    2. Alarm problem - the well-documented problem is that the LED light stays on after battery failure but nobody mentioned that the alarm siren stays on. Which problem do you have? There are rechargeable batteries in the siren unit that need to be recharged , if the leads and contacts are corroded inside the unit, the batteries cannot recharge of the main battery. See 550 threads "alarm LED lights stays on" on removing and cleaning up the leads and contacts - easy DIY job. Try this first.

    I read some postings of plug in a modified battery tender through the cigarette adaptor. I have several questions regards to that solution.

    1. Do i have to leave the car on all the time? or like the new Porsches that are all designed to have the lighter on all time to use with Porsche factory battery tender?

    2. My dealer told me that the wirings in the cigarette adaptor is very tiny and might be danger to use as charging wire. Is that so?

    No, you would not have to leave the car on.

    However, I would not use the cigarete lighter, and a 360 FChatter said he tried that and heard a relay clicking.

    The issue with the wiring size is a consideratio as well.

    If you are not comfortable installing the tender wiring, have one who is competent do it.

    Don't experiment! It could be costly.

    Did your alarm stop squealing?

    I'm having a similar problem with my alarm siren on my '99 550m. I had the batteries replaced in the unit and it seemed to solve the problem, but after I take the car for a drive and turn the car off the siren won't chirp when I lock the car and then the siren starts beeping for no reason. Has anyone else had this experience?
