Alex, do you have to enter the pacenote instructions manually or is there some kind of record function while you recce a stage?

Also, GPS accuracy is +- 100 feet, does the system ever get caught out or is it integrated with a conventional wheel pickup for elapsed distance?

    Lastly, who sells these systems?

Do they come in red, to match my suit, boots and hat? (my friend Wayne asked me to ask that one)

wayne now officially hates me, he wont speak to me, i only wish he would give it to me in writing cos i would then know where i stand.

but i did notice his flat arse just didnt look the part in that red suit, and at the drivers briefing last tuesday he turned up in red suit and was the only dickhead wearing one, my only regret was that i wanted him to be in front of me on a stage so he would know what its like to suck high octane from behind....................which he does on a regular fashion...............suck that it

fwiw i've found lately GPS is more accurate with a good signal, on the move you will likely never notice a difference of 10-20 metres as your system should provide you with upcoming notes long before that... i mean at 60kph you're travelling 17 metres per second, GPS only updates position every second. if you're doing 120kph, the worst case scenario is that your position is one second out of sync with reality, and if you're relying on to-the-second notification of stuff then you're better off with a purely human nav who can interpret the scenery, and what's your reaction time anyhoo... 0.5-1 second?

ultimately, i'd like to see (or make) a system that integrates into a HUD for the driver so it can give simple video-game-style pace note arrows reflected on the windscreen right in the drivers vision. now *that* will be cool. :)

In this version took notes as formatted text file, in next will be full course recce with high precision mapping.

Typical retail GPS are 1 once per sec updates but professional unit I used accepts reprogramming so can pump to whatever the comms will handle, eg several updates per second which is plenty!

Will be offering system commercially as does regularity type timing already (eg target time required to achieve for given distance and av speed) and will be doing lap timing soon as well.. (consecutive, historical, compare..) on top of that full street maps and POI's so top system is all-in-one.

Full recording and replay shows colour coded by speed, accel/decel etc etc

Am aiming for integrated package with compact in-car PC running windows and touch screen, gps and rally mapping software all designed to work with each other and just turn on and it goes.

I intend to offer event specific data to go with the system so you can have fully verified detailed data and performance checks all done so all you have to do is roll up to start line and never lose your place on the notes!

Will also offer software separately so you can put it together out of your own hardware: computer, gps, cables, power etc. if you really want to take it on yourself.

ugly maybe but ooooohhh soooo big, bold and readable in bouncy car at speed!

all colours, fonts etc customisable to suit your personal taste and style anyway, this is just what I chose that suited me, the screen and its location in the car ;-)
