a 1997 build delivered in april '98?

 

Sorry if the question has been asked before, but whats with the headlights?

In the old pics they are black, but in the new pics they are yellow. Did you paint them? did MM paint them? did the previous owner paint them?

Is it concoursically (i dont know if thats a word) to have them in yellow, was this available to be done from the factory?

If you look in this thread, you will see some red F50's with the colour coded red headlight surrounds. In some pics, you see the headlight surrounds painted black?

Many of the parts were built in 1996, most in 1997, I didn't see any 1998 built parts (many parts are date coded).. I suspect it was actually certified as 1998 build, but 1997 saw most of it?

I see it came with a radio/tape and a spare wheel... !!

I think there are mistakes, however minor, on almost EVERY Ferrari documentation... amazing the faith and importance and monetary value placed on such frequently nonsensical documents..

 

wow what a fantastic topic this is , this has kept me glued to the screen for ages , its rare to see an F50 in england never mind seeing one being restored/renovated, the pictures are fantastic and show what an awesome machine this is , in july 2005 i was lucky enough to be taken for a drive in an F50 with only 5000 or 6000 miles on the clock , a rosso corsa one that was imported from germany to england , this too was fitted with a tubi style exhaust which made it sound like an F1 car , i didnt realise how loud these cars were when they are accelerating under load ,when i describe it to people how loud it is in the passenger seat they think i am joking, i couldnt hear the driver talking!!! a truly astounding car with approx 550 bhp , a memory that i definately wont forget , keep up the good work , Andy.

 

Scott, does the car come with a soft top and hard top?

 

I believe it does, yet ill be open for correction if it doesn't. Apparently a difficult job to change the tops

Scott, in the last picture where the car was in Paris, it seems the Prancing horse symbol from the bottom lip of the car is missing..

Where did the car go after its Saudi owner? MM. Did they neaten it up before you bought it?

you reckon it took that long to build? I'd be surprised if an F50 took more than 500 hours to build from scratch, and probably only 30 hours to build from sub assembled bits..

I remember in the UK (around 1995?) they said a Vauxhall Nova (Holden Barina) took 8 man hours to build... and some robot time of course...

 

yeah ok take out R&D why don't you... look, i could quote someone 2 hours to make them a functional website based on something i've already done, but then i don't get paid for the time i spent developing it. looking at the "ok boys let's make an F50" point in time i can easily see thousands of hours per car. would it be more economical to pay you a few hours to do a clutch job or to train someone from the ground-up to do it?

 

interesting discussion topic though..

R&D is very different.. but consider that a concourse worthy Dino can be restored in about 1000-1200 hours including all the stripping and repairs/resto work etc...

building a new car (esp' one a simple as an F50) from parts on a shelf wouldn't take half that IMO...

 

But how many times can you then do this 2 hr task? If it is finite - say 400 times - you could then allocate the initial R&D equally. But if variable and unknown you cannot do this and so write off the R&D cost (tax loss!).

Agree - but do they ever take into account the amount of time to make each component (like in your 8hr Barina example?).




But back on topic - loving the photos - those driving boots are a great touch! Scott if you have any more photos (and the time) - keep posting!
