I like the clean look, but then, I would keep my car as it is in photo #1.

I like the top one better but also think the second does look sleeker. I would not chnage anything if that's what you are thinking about.

I would lose the DOT lamps but keep the rest.

FYI, those are not fog lights...they are passing lights that come in handy when you come up behind a slow moving vehicle to signal your intended pass. I would keep them...but, you do need to get rid of the DOT side marker lamps...that will give you a much cleaner look. I had them removed on my BB512i and it really improves the sleek look of the Boxer...

Um, OK, so it should be clear to all that I don't use lights on the BBi much -- like ever. My other cars have "pull back to flash" on the light stalk and I instinctively tried it out when I got the BBi 2 months ago. I saw the wash of white light on the side wall of WWoC and never thought about it again.

What I'd like to do is replace the flash lamps with similar looking modern halogen units that could serve in both a flash-to-pass and fog/running lamp capacity. I'd also lose the small white marker lights and move the bulbs (or equiv) inside the big yellow turn signal housings.

You should be using the flash to pass even in the day time...safety first and all that. But, if you insist on putting non-OEM fog lights on your beautiful Boxer, be sure you use all new wiring as the OEM wiring will likely melt if a constant current is put through it since the OEM wiring was designed to only handle short burst of current when flashing to pass...the white running lights look great IMHO and very few Boxers still have them as they were removed during most DOT conversions in order to put big rubber bumpers on...just curious, but if you don't like the way a Boxer looks as designed by Pininfarina and Ferrari, why did you buy it?

Oh, I do like it! I'd just like it...better.

I didn't know the white running lights were removed for DOT bumpers! Interesting.

I will likely not do anything. I tend to come up with "what if" scenarios, including EFI conversion. I'm at 24300 miles, though, and any more and the resale value of the car will start to drop no matter what, so minor mods like good fog/driving lamps might be OK.

my vote says photo # 2, passing lamps, nothing else. I agree with most to remove the DOT lamps. Much better without them. Change anything else and the value gets reduced.

My vote would be to leave everything the way it is in #1 (keep it stock), except to remove
all of the DOT side marker lights.

I think Boxers look much cleaner without them.

My vote is for option #5, which GaryReed posted - essentially #4 plus the original passing lights. But then, I may be a little biased.

I actually own 4 Boxers in the configurations shown above! :)

Yes, it is Photoshop. It's actually quite easy once you learn a trick or two. It helps that the grille has a repeating pattern. I just copied a "block" of grille and pasted it over the flash lamps. I did use a little Transform to scale and skew the copy to adjust for perspective. It's a B- job; it only looks OK here because the pix are small and kinda dim. It's very obvious on the 3400x2800 (or some huge dimensions) original.

I'll try to do the black->red color swap.
